Thompson along with AG Bill Leach, stood up to the crooks in my area (Blanton, Shaw, McCarter et al.) and help uncover the criminal activities of the Blanton Administration. He had my respect then. I only regret that Lott and Thompson let Bill Clinton get away from being impeached. RIP Senator Thompson.
