No. This is NOT the Mark of the Beast.
Revelation 13:11-18 very clearly shows it must be done with allegiance to the Satanic messiah Antichrist. And the False Prophet has all the power of Satan just like the Antichrist does.
BUT, this DOES show how easily such a system can be deployed, right NOW.
How far away can it be? Dunno.
Tanning is not difficult to learn. It is a lot of work. I have tanned deer, elk, sheep and many small critters. Once you have tanned a few hides you will gladly pay someone else to do it.

It’s all very alarming, it’s obvious that they’re preparing people.
The good thing about this, is that people like us know what to expect, because we’ve read about it, we’ve been forewarned.
The sheeple who brush aside everything, they’ll accept it, whereas we won’t, we won’t accept any sort of mark.

I think the whole idea is to have/make something useful to trade for something useful. But yes - that can be difficult to find that one-on-one situation. (Hence money was developed).
But, I have a bunch of my kid's clothes (and some adult stuff) that I have stored away. I hope that I am nuts for saving it, but if need be, I can barter it away. Although my biggest need in a total wipe-out would probably be food - and not sure who is going to give their kid's food up for some clothes. A farmer or gardener I suppose?
If it wasn't completely bad, perhaps hiring a young family man to help chop wood for my stove in exchange for some clothes.
I'm guessing that, like the Greeks, the successful ones would be very creative.
I think preparing to control people. For “peace and security” / “peace and safety”.
