When I was 14, I got my first car, a ‘64 Ford Custom 500, canary yellow, with a 352, 4-barrel and duals. Made a lot of noise, but an ugly mutt. I had a Timex, and didn’t need to build one.
I got my first around that age too. A 34 Ford street rod, with 3 in a line chrome carburetor scoops, deep dish chrome rims, beautiful sapphire blue metalflake paint job with white metalflake flames. It was 12 inches long and plastic.
When I was 17 (1964) the hottest girl in school drove a new 64 Galaxy 4 door hardtop. It also had a 352 with a four barrel. Actually she only drove it when her daddy let her, it was the family car.
I thought it was a beauty. Yellow which seemed to go with her black hair and black eyes. She looked like a French girl. I noticed her Mother had a French maiden name and was also a beauty so maybe that is where she got her looks.
My best friend had a 62 also with a 352 but with a two barrel. Believe it or not, my old 55 Ford with a 272 and a two barrel beat him quite easily in a drag.
