Wrong. We are. We consume that media and we elect those politicians. This is more of the same milquetoast pusillanimous pablum I've come to expect from the senior citizen brigade.
"Don't destroy the Constitution. Destroy the unconstitutional edifices that have been erected on its foundation." What prattle. So we'll give Trump a shot at it. Uh huh. Maybe sprinkle in a little Article V fairy dust to go along with it and just maybe all will be well.
What's the hope here? That Trump will appoint Supreme Court Justices more in alignment with our way of thinking and maybe we won't wait with baited breath every June wondering which way the winds of the SC will blow this term?
Maybe get us a convention which adopts constitutional amendments prohibiting abortion and homomarriage? Repeals the 16th and 17th amendments? I'll believe that when I see it.
When the Constitution has been usurped by those who would destroy this nation the answer is not to attempt to use that which the enemy controls. It makes for a great moral argument, but that's all it's good for. Pining for the, "good 'ol days". Blah, blah, blah.
Why is Trump surging? Nationalism and populism. Not constitutionalism. Even Cruz can't make successful inroads with that kind of rhetoric. We live in a post-constitutional society now. You want it back? You're gonna have to destroy it first.

Nationalism is important! We were a nation before we had the Constitution, we fought a war against the most powerful army in the world, and won it, before we had the Constitution.
The “proposition nation” people think we are all plug replaceable units, just install the propositions (ie: “life, liberty and the pursuit” as the Cadillac motto boiled it down) and we’re good to go. Somali Muslims are just one diversity class at community college from being good democracy loving citizens!
Nationalism and Populism might save us, where as patriot love of the Constitution isn’t powerful enough to do so.
Most people these days don’t have the ability to read and understand the Constitution. Their eyes glaze over if you try to explain it to them. So, an appeal to that is not going to work.
