This is bad. Others can use this to manipulate us.
What others know about us, which we deny.
That which is true about us, which we deny to ourselves, but which others know about us.

Quite a difference when we consider, for example, how one driving force behind the desire of some individuals to join collective mass movements is a flight from freedom, an attempt to escape the responsibility.
