Except for the fact that Alaskans have been trying to get the name changed to Denali for a long time. Denali is the name given to the mountain by the first people to live here.
In fact, the state changed the name to Denali in 1980, but the federal government hasn’t followed up on that, mostly because politicians from Ohio have always blocked any legislation to change it.
I’ve lived in Alaska since 1997 and have never encountered anyone here on either side of the political spectrum who wanted McKinley to stay the name.
Right.
But it is ALASKA, NOT Obama and the feds, who should both own and name this land whatever they want.
