I have heard so many stories of that short span between the poverty preceeding the wars (World Wars) and the welfare state. Sweden was growing amazingly in wealth, had free markets and was pretty idyllic. (If you can stand the cold). You can still see and feel vestiges of it on the archipelago towns where traditional Swedes spend their summers.
