Trump won’t make it the distance. We’d best have a Plan B.

By what analysis did you arrive at that prognostication?

The scorecard agrees with you and so did I, for the most part. But, I listened to his account of why that effort was formed and what he learned. I think he is sincere in saying why he worked with them and what he learned about being used by politics --- and especially John McCain.

Well, you can approach it one of several ways:

1. if you believe that the eGOP is going to pick the candidate, then it sure as heck won’t be Trump.
2. if you don’t accept #1, Trump can be/is pretty offensive, and it will catch up with him.
3. he will show himself to be the moderate progressive that he has been up to now, and that will alienate the same people who didn’t vote for Romney last time (and, many who did).
4. and, sort of a continuation of #2, he will say something that even those of us who appreciate his outspokenness will not be able to overlook.

I could probably think of more, but that should do for starters.

1. if you believe that the eGOP is going to pick the candidate, then it sure as heck won’t be Trump.

The GOP-e can choose their favorite candidate to push, but they have no control over the primary votes. Their favored candidate cannot win if the people don't vote for them.

2. Trump can be/is pretty offensive, and it will catch up with him.

Perhaps, but the country is flocking to him precisely because he's unafraid to say the things most politicians would die to avoid. Sometimes the way he communicates his message is harsh to our wussified ears, and yes, sometimes he does go over the top.

With the dire state our country's in, I couldn't give a crap about his harsh language, or if he offends some perpetually offended protected class. I'm simply too angry about what's happening to my country to give a damn. From what I read here and elsewhere online, that's pretty much the prevailing mood.

3. he will show himself to be the moderate progressive that he has been up to now, and that will alienate the same people who didn’t vote for Romney last time (and, many who did).

I don't expect Trump to be a perfect conservative, but he's grown as a person, and I really don't expect him to support any kind of left wing socialist policy. Freepers who've read his (just re-released) book, "Time To Get Tough", report that his prescriptions for America are more conservative than most would expect from him.

Now that the battle has been engaged, there's no way that Trump will quit. His competitive warrior sense has been switched on, and only victory will extinguish it. The man was made for this sort of contest. He'll use every bit of knowledge and skill that he's acquired over the decades to achieve his end of vanquishing his foes and winning the deal.

Only Trump can defeat Trump. As long as he wants the presidency, there's nothing anyone can do to stop him from getting it.

I disagree completely. If Trump really were going to run, he would be the GOPe dream candidate. He stands for everything they do, but since he yells a lot, some conservatives actually support him in a way they would never support other RINOs.

There are people out there who are against amnesty and don't trust RINOs on amnesty. But they cheer Trump on his amnesty.

If the GOPe could get Trump to actually run, it would be their final victory.

Trump = the destruction of the Tea Party.

I don’t think that this will happen, but if it does, Bush, as president, would be 1,000 times better than hillary....but of course there will be some so called Republicans who will sit out the election as they did the last two.....and then whine for 4-8 years while their candidate sits and watches....PATHETIC

Wrong. Bush is just like Hillary. He would be more comfortable and more electable as a Democrat.

“NO OTHER candidate is capable of beating the CoC, GOP machine. People need to wake the heck up. Once illegals are allowed to pour across border and vote in numbers greater than we have now, America is done. WAKE UP PEOPLE, your favorite candidate can’t win. Get behind Trump!”

There is nothing conservative about Trump. That is why I like Ted Cruz.

Principles are what I have always supported over personalities since I joined this forum a LONG time ago.

It’s a good thing you were young when Ronald Reagan first ran for president. I can just hear you shutting him out because he was once a Democrat union boss. You would have badly misjudged the man, simply because he once held to the wrong sort of politics.

People change and grow, Geron. I hope you can admit that truth and at least give Trump a fair hearing by reading his book.

Peace
