Fox set out to destroy Trump but they only made him stronger

Last night’s Republican debate was a great success. It was the kind of event those who want to try anything to revive our dead nation have been waiting to see.

This was a great night for many reasons but there are a few that need to be celebrated.

Donald Trump clearly pulled the entire field over to the right. We have probably not seen Republican candidates charging to the right like this for a long time – if ever. The current Drudge poll – which Fox and its further left friends will ignore- shows Trump pulling an incredible 45% plus – crushing the field. Because of Trump, there was not one variation of the RINO theme, “I can work across the aisle.” “My friends on the other side and I have done.. this …. this and this “ Trump’s assertion that the media would not even be talking about illegal aliens rang true to voters. The “gotcha” about who would support the eventual nominee and not run third Party fell flat and only gave Trump an opportunity to try out his answer. He squeezed more benefit out of the lame attempt at an attack by slapping down Megyn Kelly thus reminding voters the media is the enemy; and even FOX News cannot be fully trusted. Trump’s honest response made Kelly’s “Trump’s war on women”, attack look like the petty bleating of a GOPe apparatchik. The poll’s numbers re-enforce the value of Ronald Reagan’s tactic of showing the media as our enemy. The minuscule numbers pulled by the RINO herd...

It was tabloid journalism in a debate format.

For those who want to prove that Trump has problems, rather than personal attacks, they should have asked him how he would institute his policy ideas. Force specific answers. That way voters can decide if he is the better choice or not.

Fox really cut their own throat last night and threw Trump over the top.

You don’t kick a bear and then think that it wont come back and rip your head off later.

Trump is a hard-core businessman with people surrounding him that live to scrap and like nothing more than a war.

It’s going to cost Fox, Baer, and Kelly a lot. I would love to hear them talk about Media Bias now. Attacking The Donald on the opening question made them look like hacks. Everybody has bias, but a good questioner would have masked it better.

“Fox really cut their own throat last night and threw Trump over the top.”

They really cut OUR throats last night...

This was, finally, an PIC chance to get the truth of what has happened to America for the last 8 years out to millions, free of the Mainstream Media’s Filter, and it turned into the “Destroy Trump” show.

My opinion of Megyn Kelly has gone way down after that deliberate baited, ambush question to Trump. She could have phrased it much more objectively and not front-loaded it with her obvious negative bias.

"Mr. Trump, now how many times a week do you beat your wife, 6 or 8 times or more?"

Instead of "Mr. Trump, there is an unsubstantiated rumor in the media that you beat your wife. Can you tell us if that rumor is true or false?"

Big difference in the way the question was asked. Trump's response was funny with the Rosie O'Donnell comment but he probably should have phrased his counter attack on Kelly a little differently so as not to look bad himself. Again, his phrasing was a little off but his point about political correctness was spot on.

All in all, I think Kelly was the bigger loser in this exchange because she looked like it was personal and vindictive when she asked her loaded question to begin with. She was not being an objective moderator.

Trump doesn’t respond to “specifics” questions with specific answers. He is going to answer the way he wants to, not the was the questioner wants him to. He’s not going to play their game.

“The current Drudge poll – which Fox and its further left friends will ignore- shows Trump pulling an incredible 45% plus – crushing the field.”

Because Internet polls are so accurate...

Maybe it is just me, but I thought Trump looked bad last night. And his whining about being asked questions he didn’t like isn’t going to impress many folks, either.

Being angry won’t get him far. Giving the middle finger to the media is nice, but it didn’t win the nomination for Newt, either - and Newt was much more conservative than Trump.

The more Trump complains about how he is treated, the less presidential he looks. It is hard to convince others you are a tough guy if Megan Kelly can twist your panties in a wad.

Of course you make good sense.

Here are my impressions and tactical suggestions.

From a debate standpoint, there was virtually no debate. The Fox crew were on some sort of mission, if not an outright ego trip. They hogged much of the airtime, by directing often long queries against carefully isolated two-somes; obviously with greater hostility towards some candidates than others.

From the standpoint of oratorical techniques--I am a lifelong student of oratorical techniques--Rubio & Huckabee used their time rather well; so to a slightly lesser degree did Cruz & Carson. But none of the candidates had sufficient opportunity to show their rhetorical abilities, because of the ego or mission trip of the "moderators."

Also, for reasons of the same constraints, none of the candidates had much of an opportunity to develop any points with meaningful clarity--None!

Now, my personal bias from the start was in favor of Cruz and Trump, so I certainly appreciate Donald's ire at the way he was handled. But he needs to master two arts, which have served successful candidates throughout American history.

He needs to know when to use ire as an effective weapon & when to hold back an open display and effectively understate his displeasure with the choice of words that show he also has grace. (This can often be a very effective way to actually transfer the ire that you feel to a listener or supporter, who will feel the anger that you are suppressing by the understatement. Hollywood uses this concept endlessly to create emotional impact in movie dramas.)

Secondly, Donald needs to get a bit of Celtic lilt into his remarks, coupled with a Reaganesque smile. Again, this is a technique for stroking emotions. It is important, because ultimately most politics is driven by emotion.

Donald is completely right that there is no time to be "politically correct"; but for the same reason, it is essential to be as effective in reaching a multi-faceted, mnulti-emotion driven, audience, as possible.

This whole thing was about the Fox News moderators and not the candidates. There was hours of programming in the days before the debate about how the moderators were prepping themselves and their questions. It was like "they" were the news, not the presidential candidates.

To back this up, The Drudge Report has a link this morning that says that over the two hour debate, the moderators spoke 31.7% of the time during the debate, almost a third of the time. They were certainly "full of themselves" and focusing many of their comments before and afterwards on themselves.

I have now to question Fox. Megan and Baer is now reason to question who they really are. Megan is done with me. She came across as a little nitwit.

Do you actually believe anything one or all of the politicians on stage would say about policy? They’ll say whatever they think will get them elected then do whatever the big donors tell them to do.

Trump is a RINO, a crony capitalist, an ungodly man, and NOT a conservative.
