If "they" knew Obamacare would be upheld, and gay marriage too, then "they" might have wanted to remove THE symbol of fighting federal oppression in American history - the Confederate flag. After all, it literally represents Civil War. So if you think of it that way, this could remove a rallying point for national anger being expressed stupidly. And so, though in itself it's historically a false target and completely idiotic, the removal of it as quick, effective flash point would actually be a good thing right now.
