After NAFTA passed, the Big Three Auto makers all built plants in Mexico and started making cars; they were excellent quality. American manufacturers all had good years building the machinery. Detroit also had more hiring. I was in the industry then, and NAFTA did not cost any US jobs. It helped create a lot of jobs.
Can you explain the explosive increase in our trade deficit with Mexico after the inception of NAFTA? Or the complaints of businessmen who could not compete with cheaper labor in Mexico?
