Just speculating.
The one thing terrorists do is claim credit where they can get someone to believe them. I don’t recollect seeing any claim by ISIS or others - they likely understood how improbable it was that anything they could have done would have caused the train to speed up instead of slow down.
Search for photos of the locomotive and take a close look at the windshield, it’s intact.
Advancing the throttles is more complicated than falling on them could affect. There’s a video of a train engineer showing the process.
Looks to me like crap was thrown up when he went off the tracks and hit both sides of the windshield.
If it were terrorism, ISIS would have claimed responsibility and rambled on about some other attacks that are planned.
Every time there is a problem or situation, they want a broad-brush solution.
So terrorists have resorted to throwing rocks? Surely they can do better than that.
Seems a car bomb at a large venue would be much more effective.

I suppose, and I guess we’ll know if the speed up was very quick or over time. I still think it’s just “pilot error” and for whatever reason, the guy was blasting along.
You would be able to tell quickly from the black box.
Or if they want to take out a train, an RPG through the windshield would be a lot more effective than a rock.

Apparently there is a red button on the side of the throttle and you have to push it every so many seconds to increase speed. The report Mr. GG2 read said the black box showed the engineer never pushed the red button so the train should not have picked up speed.

This guy’s been an engineer for four years. I doubt a week has ever gone by where he hasn’t experienced rocks being thrown at his train one place or the other. It’s not that uncommon in many of those lovely city neighborhoods.
Amtrak is government operated what did you expect something to work right.

Anything to avoid recognition of the fact that a mentally incompetent Black affirmative action hire was running the train at twice its appropriate speed.
