You're absolutelycorrect, Mr. Twain. As an example, John Lennon's murder by Mark David Chapman was called an assassination...and the attempt on Zimmerman's life the other day was a deliberate attempt at assassination.

The definition of the word "assassination" is "the deliberate attempt to murder a prominent or politically prominent person".
