Earlier we reported that all the jobs added in April were part-time, or over 400,000, while full-time jobs decreased by over 200,000 pushing them further under the pre-recession peak.
Here is another stunning data point: while it has been no secret that ever since the quote-unquote recovery virtually all job gains have gone to older workers, those 55 and over and ever closer to retirement, April merely confirmed this demographically disastrous trend, and of the 255K workers added in the household survey when broken down by age group, more than all, or 266K went to workers aged 55 and older also known as the age cohort which is realizing it is never going to retire under the Fed's centrally-planned regime.

And just why is this "demographically disastrous"?
The disaster is that jobs are not being created in sufficient numbers to accommodate all ages. That older workers who have experience and a better work ethic (in general) are being hired is not the problem.
That can only add to unrest this summer.
The problem is this — not enough jobs are being created for young, inexperienced people... many of them just out of high school or college.
Increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr. ( as they did in Seattle ) ain’t gonna help.
My 23 year old daughter tells me that her generation has no work ethic, and expects all they want to be handed to them.
Of course we aren’t retiring. Millions on welfare depend on our keeping working till we drop, and that’s probably the Final Solution to the Social Security and Medicare crises, too.
Agreed.
The labor market constantly tries to find an equilibrium between labor supply and demand. But as long as we have low import tariffs and foreiners are willing to work for $1 to $2 a day, we will continue to offshore more and more jobs. The labor market will be under downward pressure until we are reduced to a third world country.
Obama promised “Change” and a “fundamental transformation” of what used to be a free and prosperous country. He delivered on his promise.
Older people cannot afford to retire. Younger people are not seen as worth hiring. What could go wrong?
She is approximately 100% correct.
Who wants to hire a young kid out of school who thinks he deserves $65K just for showing up and a trophy for participation in every meeting?
Well, if a person is on SS and medicare, there’s no need for him/her to have obamacare. Their exempt.
Yes, the under 30 crew is scary. Horrendous work ethic. Irresponsible, lazy, immature, dishonest, resentful and thoroughly entitled.
I have seen 3 young kids hired for jobs that had to be told to get off their cell phone and stop texting during work, who walked off the job and went home within 3 days.
One of them even showed up the next morning and expected his job to still be there and whined demanding his paycheck until the cops had to be called to remove him from the building.
No amount of explaining could convince him that payroll for the current week closes on Saturday and that paychecks were processed and mailed on Wednesday for arrival at his home on Thursday the following week- He wanted to go to the store NOW and wanted his money NOW.
A. A manager who thinks she deserves $150K just for having a freshly-minted MBA and giving great Powerpoint.
Today is the last day for my part time office help. After 4 months, he needs time for other things. Wonderful young college student, very polite. But if you are not pointing at a job saying "do this", he's checking his face book or reading his phone. Absolutely no initiative. Still, I'm sure he is probably better than I will get next time.
People who go to work on time, don’t spend all day texting, and actually try to do the job to the best of their abilities.
I wouldn't call it "demographically disastrous" but its more evidence of an absolutely horrible economy.
In the past, when critics said that the current unemployment numbers were not a reliable predictor of economic health because of the low labor force participation rate, the Administration's lackeys said that the lower participation rate was, in large part, due to demographics. The Baby Boomers were retiring meaning that we naturally had historic lows in participation. Now we see that the counter-argument is BS. Labor force participation is low because young people can't find jobs and older people have to work. That is a disaster, period.
