Suspect in rape of 75-year-old woman bonds out of jail, APD says release 'troubling'
Updated: 05/06/2015 5:58 PM | Created: 05/06/2015 2:55 PM By: KOB.com Web Staff and Erica Zucco, KOB Eyewitness News 4 Ernest Casias, the man accused of raping and nearly killing a 75-year-old Albuquerque woman, was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond after a judge lowered it from half a million dollars to $50,000 cash/surety. It comes after police say Casias promised to turn himself in at a specific place and time, then didn't show up. He then allegedly refused to leave a home for around an hour before they arrested him. Police believe 56-year-old Casias sexually assaulted and beat that woman with a hammer. Albuquerque police found the victim unresponsive and barely breathing while conducting a welfare check. Investigators say it took more than a month for the victim to recover enough to identify Casias as her attacker in a photo lineup. His bond was originally set at $500,000. In court, a judge lowered it to $50,000 cash or surety. Casias posted bond through a bondsman and was released. He has been ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor and complete weekly check-ins as part of his conditions of release. APD normally doesn't comment on the decisions of judges, but says it's a little worried since officers say Casias evaded them in the first place. "This man is alleged to have brutally raped and then beaten excessively a 75 year old woman. That's troubling. Obviously we don't know what circumstances the judge took into consideration when he or she lowered the bond but nonetheless we were a little concerned with that," APD Officer Tanner Tixier said. Casias wouldn't answer any questions when confronted by reporters Monday. Police say he has denied the allegations.
This used to be a nice country to live in.

It still is if you’re a member of a the New Black Panther Party, ISIS, or
MS-13 and like to loot, rape, or murder with the approval of the WH
Sure. What could go wrong?
Would it be less "troubling" if it had been a "normal" beating? Geezes. d:^)
Off to Mexico he goes.. Buh-bye
Sounds like a little community justice might be in his future...
Sounds like it still is for rapists.
