Ironic as it may seem, the original Nazis only persecuted homosexuals as a pretext--to deflect rampant homosexuality in their own ranks, and going after certain homosexuals for political/ideological reasons, even while MANY of the top Nazis were homosexual, or just plain perverted, themselves...
The accounts of the Commandant in charge of Auschwitz speak a similar story. There were ranking homosexual officers among the highest levels of the SS in the staff at Auschwitz.
