Liberals: "Taxes for Thee, Not for Me"

“Taxes for thee, but not for me” is the liberal mantra.  The celebrity-worshipping elite Left exalts the “middle-class” while not deigning to join it, and certainly doesn’t lower itself to such plebeian pursuits as paying taxes.

While Melissa Harris-Perry laments the plight of inner-city black women (and beclowns herself by asking Eric Holder to “quack for us”), she also accumulates quite a lot of loot along the way.  In 2012, she tweeted pictures of her latest renovation project in New Orleans—not her first round of “This Old House”--she and hubby James Perry renovated another fixer-upper in 2009.

Then she moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. in 2014 to take a position at Wake Forest, while keeping her show at MSNBC.

Harris-Perry’s net worth is estimated at a measly $40 million.  Nice work looking out for the little people.

Oh, when the Perrys moved from NOLA to North Carolina, they managed to forget one thing:  paying taxes.  The IRS filed a $70,000 tax lien against them, and she claims she didn’t have a clue.

In an email Wednesday, Harris-Perry said she was unaware of the tax lien but knew about the debt. She said she and her husband paid $21,721 of the debt when they filed their taxes Wednesday. The remaining debt, $48,581, covers a tax period ending Dec. 31, 2013, according to the notice.

Apparently a $40 million nest egg is Harris-Perry’s idea of wealth redistribution, and making a down-payment of .05% of her wealth to the IRS for what should be pocket-change to her is beneath contempt, unless you’re a Republican earning $70 grand a year and feeding a family.

“We actually do better as a country when we spread the wealth around,” Harris-Perry has said. She has also quoted Obama, calling income inequality “the fundamental threat to the American dream.” She called for Republican lawmakers to acknowledge that “the growing income disparity in America is, in fact, you know, a real thing,” adding that “they would have to decide if, ideologically, it’s an issue worth addressing, and if so, if it is the government’s problem to fix.”

Then there’s Touré Neblett, host of MSNBC’s show “The Cycle,” an embarrassment to television with ratings so low that in 2013 Nielsen designated the show as a “scratch” (under 50,000 viewers in key demographic) and it hasn’t recovered.  Neblett received a two tax warrants from New York totalling almost $60,000.

Liberals would like to pretend these things didn’t happen, or they forgive Touré for overlooking such a minor detail as paying “the man” because he rolls with the brothers (unlike Dr. Ben Carson, who he called the GOP’s “black friend” in 2013.).

And permanent tax scofflaw Al Sharpton, who would make Al Capone envious of his tax evasion, can’t even calculate his debt to the government (what, with all the records burned, who could be expected to know?).  The best estimates have Sharpton owing somewhere in the neighborhood of $4.5 million, including penalties and interest.  Oh, and by the way, Sharpton is an MSNBC host, too.

Perhaps MSNBC would be best served if it gave up its status as a news organization and claimed to be a religion, like Scientology (call it “Loonieology”) and negotiated with the IRS for tax-exempt status.  As it is, their hosts behave like priests and priestesses of the Left, and pay no taxes, so why not make it official?
