President Clinton plans to stay out of the limelight if Hillary Clinton launches her expected run for president, he tells Town and Country Magazine in a new interview.
My role should primarily be as a backstage adviser to her until we get much, much closer to the election, Clinton said.
The interview provides a rare inside look at the couples mindset ahead of the impending presidential announcement. Clinton is widely expected to launch a bid within the next two weeks, as shes reportedly already signed a lease for her campaign office in Brooklyn. That move forces her to officially declare as a candidate within 15 days.
President Clintons role in Hillarys 2008 campaign was a source of tensions in the Clinton camp. Many of his political advisers joined her campaign, and some sparred with Hillary Clintons staff.
The former president also sparked controversy on the campaign trail, including with remarks about President Obamas 2008 campaign being a fairy tale ahead of the South Carolina primary.
This time around, Hillary Clinton holds an enormous lead over the Democratic field, as well as the top spot in general election polling. But if she decides to run, President Clinton says the couple has agreed that she should run away from the culture of inevitability and embrace the campaign as a fresh start.
"I think it's important, and Hillary does too, that she go out there as if she's never run for anything before and establish her connection with the voters, President Clinton said, adding that he would continue his work at the Clinton Foundation.
Hillary Clinton has the chance to become the first female president in American history, which would also anoint President Clinton as the first first man. As for his potential involvement in his wifes White House, the former president said he would wait and see.
"First, I would have to assess what she wants me to do, he said.
"And second, we might have to change the [Clinton Foundation] rules again. But we haven't talked about that yet, and I don't think we should. You can't. It's hard for any party to hang on to the White House for 12 years, and it's a long road. A thousand things could happen."
He also briefly addressed criticism over the foundations willingness to accept money from a slew of foreign governments. Critics have suggested the donations may have influenced Clinton while she served as secretary of State, and questioned why the foundation took money from countries with questionable human rights records.
Hillary Clinton defended the foundation during a March press conference, stating that shes proud of its successes.
President Clinton said that the foundation underwent a review last year and has implemented every single one of the suggestions given to it.
So our plan is to spend this whole year working on the foundation, which is, by a good long stretch, the most transparent of all the presidential foundations and more transparent than a lot of other major foundations in the country, he said.
It should be, both because I believe in it and because Hillary is in public life, and we'll get criticized, as some people are criticizing me, for taking money from a foreign government.
Complete with back-stage servicing?
I did not have sex with that woman, Huma Abdelin
Yeah, we think alike. The words that came to my mind were “backstage casting couch.”

Wow me too. God help the poor catering staff.
If she becomes next POTUS it would be like nuking the Hindenberg as it’s falling down in flames in some insane misguided attempt to save it. WHAT could possibly make someone so incredibly nuts as to vote for this witch?
Hey, think of the young chicks that’ll be hanging out! Yowza!
Hey, they had to do something with the human gaffe machine. (Remember South Carolina?) (Remember “biggest bunch of fairy tales”.)
After all, he was the first black president— the icon of the Left, who are presently not all that crazy about his Stalinist wife. (Except those who are PAID to be.)
“Back stage” means that he doesn’t have to drag around the country lying about Hillary’s Hillary-ness, or even vote for the old girl. He doesn’t like her either.
I think he means “back door”.
With all those silly women idiot Hillary adorers out there old Slick Bill will have a field day of pickins.
Bring on this horny-hick-from-Hope impeached ex-pres and his harridan, screeching bee-otch of a wife. Let’s defeat them and forever banish them from public office. They can consume each other in their retirement.

Sometimes I wonder if Bill plans to vote for her.
Natalie appears to be very excited to meet Hillary...
I don’t think Bill really wants Hillary to become a president. He doesn’t want her brought up to his level of fame and influence. Bill C. is used to being ‘the star of the family’, not the understudy. She may be nominated, but if it starts to look as though Hillary has a lock on the electorate, check back shortly before the November 2016 election. I expect Bill C. to ‘accidently on purpose’ sabotage her candidacy with an Anthony Weiner Moment that would make Dominique Strauss-Kahn green with envy. “Sorry Honey, I never even met her before that spiked drink”.
barf
he will fully expect to be co president with his own staff and office
It would almost be worth it to watch 2 old scorpions fighting over power, and hillary’s staff of metrosexuals having hissy fits
It’s been a difficult life for Chels.
She had to wait til age 30 to get her first $10m Manhattan condo.
While also offering his services to interns as a backdoor mentor.
