Four years ago, when the charity-minded Women of Quail Creek collected baby shower items for military wives and active military moms-to-be, the event was so graciously welcomed that theyve continued the event every year since.
This year, the event has been moved from August to April 18 so winter visitors can participate.
Idea originator and 30-year Army retiree Peggy McGee said the first event was held at the Army National Guard in Tucson with successive showers at the Air National Guard with the Army invited.
For this shower, 28 moms-to-be are expecting 29 babies, and 13 are active members of the National Guard.
One dad-to-be, a member of the Wounded Warriors program, will attend with his wife. McGee said husbands and significant others are included in the event though many are unable to attend.
More than the Women of Quail Creek sewing, knitting, crafting and buying baby items, the greater Green Valley community is invited to donate, too.
The theme is Noahs Ark, so anything with an animal motif would be great, she said. We are pretty well set with hats, booties and blankets, but if we get them they will be used.
Checks may be made payable to TWoQC Charity Account. Cash donations will be used to buy diapers and wipes. A new mom can never have enough diapers, McGee said, adding at last years baby shower the moms-to-be were overwhelmed with the laundry basket filled to the brim with practical baby items.
New donated items and checks may be brought to donation boxes at Quail Creeks Madera Clubhouse, Anza Fitness Center or to Pam Rodgers home at 2640 E. Sawyer Road.
Delivery by April 12 is appreciated so the women can shop to balance the items in each basket.
Thanks, Sandy! I would have made a couple of baby quilts if I’d had more notice! Once I finish the one I’m working on (for a family member), I’ll make a couple for next year!
It appears I’m not the only FReeper in GV!
