They Never Eat Their Words

It’s not even remotely satisfying to witness the Obama administration and its media minions repeatedly spew maniacal, spittle-flecked pablum only to have those words served up cold and congealed for them to consume.  Because the Left never eats its words.

On June 6, 2014, Susan Rice—head cheerleader for the “I’ll read any talking point” squad—told CNN,

"I realize there has been lots of discussion and controversy around this," Rice said. "But what I was referring to was the fact that this was a young man who volunteered to serve his country in uniform at a time of war. That, in and of itself, is a very honorable thing."
She then told ABC News,
“He is going to be safely reunited with his family. He served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years, but what's most important now is his health and well being, that he have the opportunity to recover in peace and security and be reunited with his family. Which is why this is such a joyous day.”
In and of itself, volunteering to serve in uniform is not serving “with honor and distinction.”  This is why the military has different categories of separation:  honorable discharge, general discharge, and dishonorable discharge.  Bergdahl, whom the Army court-martial will likely convict of desertion, will not receive an honorable—or even a general—discharge.  He will be dishonorably discharged, stripped of rank, deprived of back-pay, and probably sentenced to a period of confinement.

Granted, his confinement at Leavenworth will be better than the Taliban’s arrangements, and Bergdahl, like Chelsea Bradley Manning, will be free to live out his (her) life in relative ease and die in bed.  Some of the worst tyrants in the world died in bed:  Alexander the Great, Antonio López de Santa Anna, and Josef Stalin all died in bed.  None of them were honorable by any decent standard.

Josh Earnest, who uttered “words matter” in relation to Benjamin Netanyahu’s words, won’t eat anyone else’s, especially in relation to Bergdahl.

Earnest continued to defend the decision President Obama made to get him back in the first place, saying the principle of leaving no man behind “in the hands of the enemy” is of primary importance.
Even Obama shill CNN couldn’t stomach this—host Kate Bolduan asked,
“That’s a huge statement for the president to make, the optics of that, the message that sends. In light of these charges, was that a mistake?”
Nope.  Not according to Earnest, who speaks for President Obama.

The mainstream media is doing the Riverdance to get around having to eat its own words.

On ABC’s World News Tonight, chief foreign affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz reported that “the celebrating was short-lived” upon his arrival in the United States as he “did not want to see his parents, and his fellow soldiers began to go public with their disgust.”

A soundbite from former roommate and retired Army SPC Cody Full followed as Full stated his belief that Bergdahl “knew what he was doing when he deserted us.”

Near the end of the show’s segment, anchor David Muir joined CNN’s Brooke Baldwin in wondering about the length of any possible sentence Bergdahl may receive: “But if Bergdahl is found guilty, Martha, would the Army take into account he was a prisoner of the Taliban all those years?”

Over on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, Pentagon correspondent David Martin’s report featured no clips from those condemning Bergdahl’s actions, but instead allowed a clip of Bergdahl’s attorney to play in which he criticized the entire situation: “The case has been politicalized in the sense that some people in our democracy have seen this case as a way of hammering the President of the United States for any reason and every reason.”

NBC Nightly News not only featured a soundbite from one of Bergdahl’s fellow soliders, but also mentioned the fact that one of the Taliban commanders has since tried to re-engage in terrorism and included a clip from the mother of a solider who died looking for Bergdahl in Afghanistan expressing her disapproval of Bergdahl.

When it came to their coverage when the swap was initially announced on May 31, 2014, the networks spent a whopping 18 minutes and 52 seconds of airtime on their evening newscasts, but devoted only 26 seconds to questions about his conduct as a solider prior to his capture.

CNN’s Brooke Baldwin went so far as to suggest that Bergdahl’s captivity with the Taliban is enough punishment.
Col. Mann, you have those ... on the opposite end vilifying him. Again, this is someone who was held, you know, for five years by terrorists. Is that not – this is what some say – is that not punishment enough?
If Bergdahl, as all the evidence suggests, deserted his post to join the Taliban, and they mistreated him, he not only deserved the punishment they doled out, but he hasn’t even begun to pay back the punishment he earned by deserting his fellow soldiers, not to mention the soldiers who gave their lives attempting to retrieve him.  If there is any truth at all to the statement “better off dead,” it applies to Bowe Bergdahl.

For President Obama, [mc_name name='Sen. John Kerry (D-MA)' chamber='senate' mcid='K000148' ], Susan Rice, and the Leftist media, history is for losers.  Protecting the narrative is more important than the lives of mere pawns in the military or the hoi polloi proletarians.  These effete snobs have their grand agenda, and they shed no tears for others who must sacrifice to advance it.

They never eat their words.

It is frustrating. It may be the next life when they are finally held accountable.
