Teach ‘em young. Sadly, the kids may not have known (but some probably got it) the extent of the fraud. But the coaches sure did. What a great teachable moment for the kids huh? Sue away jessie.
Notice Jackson didn’t get traction on this one. Could it be that people are contracting JWFS (Jackson Whining Fatigue Syndrome)and just don’t care anymore about what him and Sharpton says?
It’s actually only “wrong” when you point out that a minority group didn’t abide by the rules.
I’m only surprised that Obama didn’t weigh in yet on this event.
WHO NEEDS THE RULE OF LAW WHEN WE HAVE THE RULE OF SELF ENTITILED MAN????
Did the team use ineligible players throughout the season, or just pull together an all-star team for the tournament?
I believe this is what's called an artificial dichotomy, presenting the situation as if there are only two solutions. In this case, the boys should either be allowed to cheat or they will be killed in the streets. What lousy logic.
Seems to me that the upshot of the “Little League Team Busted” story is not that it is wrong if you get caught, but that it is wrong to catch someone and point it out. There’s a lot of this these days. Bryan Williams story...New England Patriots story...
The 1992 Little League World Series took place between August 24 and August 29 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Little League baseball team representing Zamboanga City won its way through national trials, the Far East series, and after brushing aside the competition at the Little League World Series, was crowned the champion of the 46th Little League World Series. The team was stripped of its title after Filipino journalists revealed to the world that the team had used ineligible players who, variously, did not meet either age or residency requirements. The team from Long Beach, California, which Zamboanga City had defeated in the final, had the title awarded to it. In their 29-0 blowout of Canada the team from the Dominican Republic set the record for the most runs scored in one game.
This is the epitome of the entitlement mentality. These people believe they are entitled to whatever they want and if they can’t have it then it’s because of oppression. Thus, anything is “right” as long as you don’t get caught and if you do get caught it’s someone else’s fault.
This is a teachable moment.
fudging the rules (at least a little bit, but sometimes by a lot) is seen in urban poor areas as the only way to claw out of the generational cycle of poverty. This doesn’t just go for criminals, parents will claim their kid lives a few dozen blocks away with a cousin to get their kid eligible for enrollment in a better school. The system they are born into is so screwed up and so disinterested in being anything more than screwed up, that the only way out, or to get just a little bit more of a chance inlife, is to hustle.
Given that precondition, geographic lines for a little league team are very flexible and questioning the veracity of them is attacking families who just want their kids to have something positive in their lives to build on.
How one gets from that starting point to understanding that the system can be comparatively fair and one can get ahead by playing by the rules, and put in the massive effort to root out the corruption and mismanagement that keep these populations down, I haven’t the foggiest... but school choice would be a good first step.
I think it’s racists just because it was an all black team, so there!
These people are such fools!
