BuzzFeed posted a video about the death of chickens called, "Foodies Kill Their Food For The First Time." In it, several "foodies," or people who like high-quality foods, kill their own chickens for the first time.
BuzzFeed posted the video in order to bring attention to where food comes from and wonders aloud if people would be okay with eating meat if they knew where it was coming from.
The video begins with the all caps text, "MORE THAN 23 MILLION CHICKENS ARE SLAUGHTERED IN THE UNITED STATES... EVERY DAY." The video then shows people crying over the idea of killing a chicken, huddling next to and hugging a chicken, and ultimately slitting a chicken's throat.
Those who killed the chickens, the "foodies," came away telling people that they should know where their food comes from and at least one of them is contemplating becoming either "a vegetarian or vegan."

Only a complete moron would have no idea of where meat comes from and we pay others to prepare it so we can just enjoy it. I wonder how they feel about fish? people are squeamish nowadays, but in the past no one would think twice about killing animals they raised themselves for food.
I love chickens............ especially battered and fried.
Oh for heaven’s sake. I was scraping dead hogs in 1951, and by 1957 was killing chickens to put in the freezer, I’ve since then killed hundreds of chickens, geese and butchered cattle.
I have noticed as as people get older they get more squeamish about killing animals.
A few years ago my mom and aunt went back to some kin way back in the hills, and they just happened to be killing hogs that day. Now my aunt and mom had killed hogs and chickens back in the depression so were not averse to it back then, but this day they decided to leave early when they heard the “pop” of a .22 taking down a hog.

If everyone quit eating chickens, cows and pigs, no chickens, cows or pigs would get any life at all.
Extinction is a much worse fate than living for a while and being slaughtered, which is what happens to almost all creatures in the natural world. And their deaths involve more suffering than slaughter by humans.
You will never progress by denying the workings of the natural world. Live in harmony with nature and follow its rules.
My old hippie friend, who was a vegetarian for a long time, ended up raising her own chickens and obviously killing them.
She was a great animal lover, but she was matter-of-fact about it. In other words, she might have been left of center, but she was not an idiot. Maybe this was because her father was truly a gourmet chef. Basically their family was “foodies” before that term even got coined. (And her dad WAS a great cook, he cooked for us kids a lot, and he always made a vegetarian dish for my friend, also with no moaning and groaning, I’m sure he considered it a worthy challenge.)
She’s basically a prepper now, and as she told me: I know most of the preppers are righties, but so be it, I want to be self-sufficient.

I have a couple pet chickens and they’re permanently excused from the dinner table. The rest of them end their final week getting a special diet of bison fat and corn that makes them fatten up and get tastier.

I found out where food came from at age 6 when my dad grabbed one of our extra roosters, chopped its head off with a hatchet and hung it up on the clothesline to bleed out. Once I got over crying it tasted pretty good later that day with mashed taters and gravy. :-)
Grandma let ‘me run after the chop. Bled out quick and fertilized the ground. Ever hear the phrase “ran like a chicken with it’s head cut off”?
Yes my Dad let them run around for a minute or two til they dropped then hung them up on the clothesline post. :-)
