Sierra Vista has state's cheapest insurance. Local average at $990 per year

SIERRA VISTA — A recent study by a New York-based personal finance research firm has found that Sierra Vista residents pay the lowest homeowners insurance premiums in the state.

With an average annual premium of $990, Sierra Vistans pay a full 23 percent less than the state average of $1,275 for a $200,000 house, according to the study by ValuePenguin.

What isn’t said is that the vast majority of homeowner’s insurance is from USAA to the retired veterans who live in Sierra Vista. USAA has some of the best rates around for car and homeowner’s insurance because it caters almost exclusively to veterans.

I pay about half of that and I'm just over on the other side of the Santa Ritas...about 80 miles away.
