Republican Sen. Ted Cruz will get an award from a Hollywood honor society despite objections from some of its liberal members, insiders said Monday.
The Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors had seemingly settled on one of its American Spirit Awards going to Cruz until some members threatened to quit over the selection because they deemed him too partisan.
Some members of the organization met Monday to discuss the situation and decided that Cruz would get the award, and the senator is expected to attend a ceremony in April and address the group.
As is customary, the Caucus will also give a Spirit award to a Democrat, and insiders say that Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown is the top choice, though the group has yet to formalize the selection.
"I'm looking forward to Sen. Ted Cruz' visit to Hollywood," Caucus member Lionel Chetwynd said Monday. "There is no greater advocate on Capitol Hill for free speech, nor persistent critic of the pirating of our intellectual property all over the world."
The Caucus was founded three decades ago by Norman Lear, Aaron Spelling and others, and it seems to periodically go through fits of political turmoil. Three years ago, for example, some members quit when it was learned that some of their colleagues celebrated bias against conservatives in the entertainment industry.
Good news.
the left wants TCruz to gather momentum.
they want everyone on the right to get behind him.
and when they disqualify him from running, they will take the wind right out of our sails... and will sail into an easy victory
the left doesn’t attack candidates that agree with them or not easily dealt with.
Wow. This is unexpected, but good.
Name Rec. Name Rec. Name Rec.
Ted has everything he needs to govern, and any positive name rec is good considering how the left, FNC and the GOP-E refuse to murmur his name.
Norman Lear, creator of All in the Family, also did this, according to Wiki: “As part of the ongoing drive to promote active and thoughtful citizenship, Lear premiered BornAgainAmerican.org at the Presidential Inauguration in 2009. The BornAgainAmerican campaign includes a specially commissioned song and an interactive website, reminding visitors of the American values expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
Aaron Spelling was responsible for the TV series 7th Heaven about a minister and his family.
Both men are/were Jewish. Go figure.
Both the left and right in Congress have already tried to “dis-qualify” Ted Cruz .. and so far they aren’t making any headwind.
I’d still bet Ted Cruz will come out on top. He is NOT stupid as they suppose.
Having stated that, I think Walker would make a fantastic president, too. You can't discount what he has accomplished.
For me, I'm happy with either one. Ted is by far the more emotional choice - he knows how to hit all the right buttons. He can throw red meat to the base without being gratuitous. Remember that group he spoke to in Manhattan in December and the comment of one of the attendees is that he was surprised Ted was well spoken? People think he is a knuckle dragger based on the biased news, but he is one of the most articulate, if not the most articulate in politics today. So he has a lot of room to gain support as people get to see him campaign, etc.
Walker will promote his accomplishments, of course, and they are impressive. Voters like to vote for governors, too.
Virginia holds its primary in June, so the nominee will be decided long before then, so my vote won't matter, but it will be an interesting race.
If VA has a primary in 2016, it’ll be held March 1. Sometimes our primary really counts, other times it’s over before the VA primary. Without a Republican incumbent running, I tend to think VA will count next year.

It’s a trick, a Trap, a Roast. It’s Hollywood. Ignore them Cruz, with just a Thank you.
Oh, I think he should go. He is a very effective, highly intelligent speaker who’s committed to his belief system. The opposition should see and hear that.
They can’t trick him. They might not like what he says, but he knows what he’s talking about, and why he holds the positions that he does. He’s smarter than all of them put together.
I actually agree. Watching to see what happens.
