”to protect the military from such acts of offensive journalism”

We too often forget is that Obama is the CIC and the last time I checked the military is not an open democracy. Obama can put into motion censorship over the military. The trick is not to let it spread to the rest of us. Elections have consequences, and part of Obama's fundamental change has been to subvert the military.

As Commander in Chief, the President can censor the military and presumably censor the sort of press available to the military. That is becoming increasingly difficult to do in light of the internet but it’s something the President could do.

What Obama cannot do is censor the press outside of the military. He can’t even censor the press for the benefit of the military. The question for me is what exactly does Josh Earnest mean when he suggests the President may take “steps that are necessary” to protect the military due to “offensive” publications about the false prophet Muhammad.
