Besides there are LOTS of small women in this world who are not Asian and being tiny does not always make dainty...though I'm sure your wife IS.
Funny how certain immigrant groups gravitate to certain businesses. My main reason for posting this was to contrast how hard-working immigrants can find success here, yet so many blacks seem unable to.
I grew up in South Florida and saw what the Cuban immigrants did in a very short time. Makes me wonder...
NOT all American women have calloused, sweaty feet.
WOW, do we have some, er, bias here or what? :o)
I tip ALL the service industries well. Always have.
Men have half their mother's genes and how those genes come into play depends a lot on upbringing and values. But, you know that.
Lol. Are some of your best friends men? J/k.
Around here it is closer to 90% and the ones that aren't have to do hair and such to make money.
Yep.
The Vietnamese run the roach-coaches,
The Cambodians the donut shops, and
The Somali’s drive taxis and spy on government officials.
Avoid the bamboo manicure, that's their little idea of a joke...
The shop owner is usually the husband of the Nr.1 nail tech and probably related to the others. Often one of the nail techs is the actual owner and the front man is a relative who has the job for security reasons and because people are less apt to leave without paying. He is often a rough looking individual whose English ability varies with the needs of the moment. Most of these shops are family operations. Families send their kids to college out of them and have nice houses. Some of these men and women have college degrees but make more money doing nails. The son of a friend is a pharmacist during the week and a nail tech on weekends.
But isn't that "acting white"? They should be living off of welfare, getting their housing through Section Eight, and perhaps earning some extra tax-free income by selling narcotics on the side.
The appearance of abuse of tips by the owner is more apparent than real. Things are often not quite what they appear.
Some of the teenagers like to be “Asians.” Most prefer to be “Vietnamese.” They are not excited about being lumped in with Arabs and Pakistanis.
Whatever it takes. Seems the lesson is lost on many Americans.
They come here not knowing much English and not knowing the culture. They use their intelligence and energy to set up businesses.
Then there’s this group that has been in the USA for a long time. It has no energy to start businesses. It lives among English-speaking people but refuses to (or can’t) learn to speak English. It complains about discrimination in order to excuse its self-inflicted failures.
They are usually family run, like a lot of mom & pop stores are. Even some restaurants. Black owned businesses do not hire other races either. Go to Little Italy in NY, most are family owned unless they are a chain brand.
They can get away with it because of so few employees and no one challenges it.
I went through the torture to have ingrown toenails removed, supposedly only 5% ever grow back. WRONG, doctor ruined my perfect toenails. It’s taken 2 yrs to grow them back out and many trips for Pedicures which takes care of the problem better than the doctor did.
As long as they are in the USA legally I have no problem with it.
I had been saying I would get a pedicure when I came back from Iraq in 2009. I finally did so in 2011 as a “bonding” with my 17 year old daughter. Spending time with her was good but I hate having my feet touched. It was pretty creepy and I will not be doing that again.
The only time I slightly liked having my feet touched was during physical therapy. And even then it took a few visits until I could stop flinching.
Yep. And doesn’t look like that is going to change any time soon.
After the takeover in Viet Nam the Viet refugees got out however they could and the Chinese were kicked out by the Communists. When they got to their new countries they understood relationships differently. Even in Viet Nam now the hostility between the two populations has pretty much gone away because in the face of the Communists it became silly.
LOL My daughter, who is 28, doesn’t like the scrubbing they do on the bottom of her feet. I love it because I get bad calluses. I also love the hot towels around my calves. And the massage chairs, of course. I consider it quite a treat for $25.
LOL, my late husband who taught himself at 7 to play piano had small hands for a man. Then in his teens he taught himself guitar, had to find one with a small neck. As an adult he played a Peavy narrow neck guitar, and a Korg full size keyboard.
While hand size might make it easier to play, small hands don’t stop any one from doing so. A 10 yr old on the Voice, a genius, ready to start college, played the piano and sang very well this year.
My great granddaughter started taking piano lessons at 10, so you know her hands were small.
I found a CCW piece that fits my small hands. You just have to want it.
I don’t think this is big news. In central Minnesota, nearly all of the workers in manicure/pedicure shops are Asian, and most are Vietnamese.
