We need to fix policing and the justice system, legalizing drugs doesn’t do that.

The left twists everything into a push to legalize drugs, we will never demilitarize the cops or fix policing and search law and confiscations, if we keep letting them hijack our efforts and turn it into “legalize drugs”.

Libertarian and JBT ping.

I find this is actually a pretty good analysis of the facts.

It’s not written from a hardcore libertarian “All cops are scum” approach, not is it written to appease the “copsuckers”.

It’s Time to Demilitarize the Police

The local police should be armed to the level that the local citizens want.

Just because some individual police or some local police departments doesn't know how to handle their level of weaponry doesn't mean all departments don't know how to handle their weaponry.

A generalized headline that says Time to Demilitarize the Police smells like an appeal to weaken local power and an appeal to increase federalized power.

Hands up don't shoot.

Sooner or later I expect a court to rule that we have the right to anti-tank weapons since the government is deploying tanks on our streets.

There is nothing in the Constitution about “professional” police and that is a potential problem.

Back in the day, citizens kept the peace in their own neighborhoods. If someone violated the common law, your neighbors (the posse) would come to your aid and apprehend the hooligan. If the trouble involved a lot of bad guys, the citizens formed a militia to deal with it.

If there was a question about whether someone deserved to be charged with a crime, the grand jury would decide that question, then a jury of your peers would decide guilt or innocence.

However, today’s police are rapidly crossing the line from peacekeepers to a standing army, and that is a very serious issue. The Framers hated the idea of the government owning an army without an enemy, because history showed that such an army would always be used against the citizenry. Always.

We have a problem but no easy answers.

It is not only time to ‘demilitarize’ the local police forces across the nation, but it is also time to wrench them out of the hands of the federal government, and back into the hands of the taxpzyers who pay for all this junk.
