Spreading holiday fear.
Apparently, the Obama administrations ostensible determination to foster diversity in the military is a one-way street. Army Chaplain Joseph Lawhorn was disciplined for mentioning his faith and the Bible as part of a November suicide prevention training seminar with the 5th Ranger Training Battalion. You provided a two-sided handout that listed Army resources on one side and a biblical approach to handling depression on the other side, wrote Col. David Fivecoat, commander of the Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade at Ft. Benning, Georgia, in an official Letter of Concern. This made it impossible for those in attendance to receive the resource information without also receiving the biblical information.
Lawhorn received the letter following orders to appear in Col. Fivecoats office on Thanksgiving Day. The letter continued:
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something, but what’s the point of a Chaplin if he cannot talk faith? Might as well call him a “Guidance Counselor”.
Sir. GFY. SIR !
Looks like the transformation of our military is almost complete.
hello McFly....he's a CHAPLIN
But it’s ok for his boss, the Commander in Chief, to speak of his Muslim faith.
I guess "chaplain" is one of those words that has lost its meaning, or has come to mean something else. "Tolerance" used to mean "the ability to tolerate or put up with something". Now it means "utter acceptance and validation of anything, no matter how odious or ridiculous or offensive".
Fivecoat besmirches his uniform.
No prob. Any reason why?
Oh no, not you, Bob ... I’m suggesting the chaplain put his Christianity in his back pocket and respond with military decor and dignity.
I’m curious where you got that information? Not doubting it, and I am an RC myself, but I have never read that before.
More on this here: http://www.militarycorruption.com/fivecoat.htm
True...I don’t know enough details. If he’s preaching in a way that comes across as proselytizing, then not so good.
I’m going to email my Congresswoman & both Senators and ask them why military chaplains are not allowed to mention religion. If enough folks email THEIR representatives, I bet the Colonel will become very unhappy.
If you are a banker and during a friendly card game you mention you can offer services to a player at the table, are you proselytizing ?
If you describe your child's role in a Catholic Christmas Cantata, are you proselytizing ?
If you put your address on the back of a card instructing people how to make a rocket stove, are you proselytizing ?
I stand affirmed ... Sir, FGY, SIR !
My question is why is the chaplain giving a mandatory seminar on suicide prevention? Isn't that a topic for the medical branch to be dealing with?
