They are the products of an obscene American popular culture, poor parenting and a declining national economy. These things are not fixable by their recognition....but only by an arising from their ashes.

students betrayed a staggering inability to think critically

American schools have been actively teaching "critical thinking skills" for decades now.

Doesn't matter what the question is -- the answer is: "Marxism". That's what critical thinking tells you. Of ourse, as Inigo Montoya might tell you, the phrase "critical thinking" may not actually mean what they think it means.

In the months leading up to the second world war we saw the same inversion of reason among the students at Oxford who responded to a debate at the Oxford Union and declared that they would never fight to defend their country. Certainly, they were no less disillusioned with England than students in America attending places like Harvard are with America.

In the face of this mindlessness, this servility to the leftism of the Oxford faculty (remember this was before the Ribbentrop/Molotov pact which caused great disillusionment on the left), this leftist impulse toward "critical thinking" as a tool to tear down the nation state to enable socialism to pour through the breach, England was rendered nearly naked in the presence of evil. But the faculty at Oxford did not count on the blundering of Corporal Hitler who made all clear by his invasion of Poland and sealed his own fate by declaring war on the United States after Pearl Harbor.

Sadly, there is reason to believe that the state of our faculty and our students in America today is worse than the mindset at Oxford Union in that day. We have the specter of Americans leaping to their deaths on 9/11 and today the specter of Americans being beheaded in front of the cameras on the Sands of the Middle East. Nothing seems to move the modern American left.

We always knew the left was immune to reason but now they are immune to emotion as well.
