The riots that followed the Grand Jury decision led to the
the St. Louis County Police department to fly helicopters over Ferguson, Missouri, and drop job applications as a means of dispersing the crowds to avoid further riots and looting.

Lessons?

Well, if you are white cop in black area, don’t get out of the car until the crime is long over and the danger is passed, and don’t bother with community policing and petty crime.

For the rest of us, look at Argentina, Bolivia or Venezuela to understand where American society is headed.

“When a police officer asks you a question, answer it, and then shut your mouth.”

No, when a police officer asks you a question, say “I want to speak to my attorney, I don’t consent to any searches, and I reserve my right to remain silent” and then shut your mouth.

Lessons learned. Very few and the few will soon be forgotten. Sad.

“we have no reason to fear a police”

When we are driving and have done nothing wrong, why do we fear the police in the car behind us?

When the officer gives me a ticket and then in court tells the judge he is mistaken and I did not do what the ticket says I did, why does the judge tell me “The police never make a mistake. I find you guilty.”

When my job entails driving spot to spot throughout the city, why are the detectives following me...knowing me and knowing that I’m a total abstainer from alcohol, drugs and violence?

When I’m walking home from by suburban job in a white shirt and tie and appoaching a policeman parked at an intersection, why do I fear that policeman?

When a blonde teen girl walks home and responds in kind to an insult from her teen brother, why does she fear the police? Because the police beat the crap out of her for precisely that situation.

The reality is that many (but not all) of us have experienced, or known others, who experienced abuse of power. Abuse of power happens more often when the officer thinks he can get away with it.

I’m not commenting on Wilson & Brown. I’m commenting on the reality that we do fear police in America. And we fear police for reasons based in reality.

The lesson learned here with Obama’s order “to stay the course” which was a successful protest dress rehearsal if congress ever moved on impeachment.
