The bank probably has so many houses not being paid for that if they listed them as in foreclosure they would have to put it down as a liability. They would then have more liabilities than assets and that would force them to go bankrupt. So instead, they just ignore the squatters.

She’s been “negotiating” with the bank ever since. It is about the legal standing (backed by documents in their posession) banks now often don’t have to evict. It’s the dirty little secret most did not know about in this collapse.

But when someone makes it clear they will require the bank to make their case in court, suddenly the bank wants to work with you.
