It’s all but official: This will be the most dominant Republican Congress since 1929
Washington Post ^ | 11/5/2014 | Philip Bump

This will be the most dominant Republican Congress since 1929, with an almost-certain 8 percent majority in the Senate and an 11.7 to 17.7 percent majority in the House. That trumps the party's 6.3/13.3 percent majorities in the 80th Congress that began in 1947. (Even if the party loses the Senate races in Louisiana or Alaska, it only needs two of the contested House races that remain to go its way to beat 1947.)

Wow! The similarities are chilling. Hopefully the Republicans are a bit smarter.

In 1929 the Republicans had a 56% majority in the Senate and 270 Republican house members. When the next congress began there were 36 Republican senators and the House lost 52 Republican seats. Let's hope this is not a repeat!!!

Except the history is precisely reversed. The Republicans have gained because of Democrat disasters, while after 29, the Democrats gained because of percieved Republican disasters.

The causal relationship is precisely reversed.

Of course, the entire left’s ideas are almost entirely based on thoughts that reverse causality.

Of course the Depression was the major factor in the Republicans’ electoral debale in 1932. And that was exacerbated by GOPer Herbert Hoover being not just POTUS during the Crash but one with a seemingly aloof personality. I don’t foresee those factors repeating themselves.

And McSally took Gabby’s old seat despite Gabby’s anti 2nd amendment super-pac pouring money in for her opponent. Sorry you got shot Gabby but contrary to your views more lives will be saved by opposing your agenda,

What ever happened to “Commander” Mark Kelly’s plan to run for Senate? Wasn’t the MSM decreeing him the next big thing for Democrats?

One of the laws passed by that Congress, the 78th, was a measure sponsored by Sen. Wesley L. Jones (R-Wash.) that toughened penalties for violating Prohibition. This act inspired a popular tune.

Does anyone know if the Virginia Senate race has been officially decided? The latest info I could find was that Warner declared himself the winner, but Gillespie wouldn’t concede pending a recount.

“The causal relationship is precisely reversed.”

But history, and the present, is whatever the media makes the most money saying it is.

My father was nine years old in 1929, but he remembers it well because in August of that year, he saw the German airship Graf Zeppelin which landed at Mines Field--now known as LAX--near Los Angeles and was quite impressed.

Nah. They like money, but the agenda is far more important. I would believe your assertion if it said:

But history, and the present, is whatever the media decides moves its agenda forward the best.

Sorry, media’s only agenda is to make money.
Liberal ideas and policies make them the most money.
So they’re VERY liberal.
