Expert: ‘Very real’ chance U.S. soldiers deployed to African hot zone will get Ebola

Jazz Shaw reported on Sunday that a Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital care provider who treated Thomas Eric Duncan, the American Ebola victim whom the Centers for Disease Control have taken to calling the “index patient,” has tested positive for the deadly hemorrhagic fever.

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, told the Associated Press that the spread of the infection was the result of a failure to observe proper procedures for handling an Ebola patient. He added that there “certainly had to have been an inadvertent, innocent breach of protocol of taking care of a patient within the personal protective equipment.”

“I think the fact that we don’t know of a breach in protocol is concerning, because clearly there was a breach in protocol,” CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden concurred in an appearance on CBS News. “We have the ability to prevent a spread in Ebola.”

“We know from many years of experience that it’s possible to care for patients with Ebola safely, without risk to health care workers,” he added. “But even a single breach can result in contamination.”(continued)

In other words they just don’t know but they are going to continue lying.

100% certainty. 4000 troops/close contact with infected = 100%

If someone pretends like accidents or mistakes in protocol cannot happen, they are playing you for a fool. If someone asserts as fact that accidents and mistakes are impossible, they believe that they are talking to a gullible doll who will swallow it up.

On “Cassin in” they said that soldiers only get 84 cents an hour additional for combat duty. I wonder if that applies to these soldiers?

Well the only important thing is that fast food workers get $15 an hour, according to Obama.

Yup. You want to guarantee that more ebola comes to America, keep allowing flights to come into our country from the affected regions and expose several thousand of our servicemen and women to the disease. The people running our country are idiots.

Why the military is following orders from complete idiots is something that is getting increasingly difficult to understand.

Based on the facts that two people (Spanish nurse and this person) got infected by following CDC protocol...

Both seem to have made a simple mistake and will probably pay with their lives dying a most horrific death...

Obviously more stringent protocol needs to be developed for heath workers and adhered too...down to the letter...

We have protocols for handling infectious diseases in the laboratory where virtual no one gets infected...so it can be done...

Sure, but unless you witness the mistake you cannot say it was the cause. In other words he is guessing and passing it off as a fact.

How many medical personnel (western trained) have caught the disease in West Africa? Did everyone make a mistake or is their a lack of understand in how this virus infects people.

I’ll bet you a nice steak dinner that these troops are receiving no combat pay at all. Humanitarian relief is not normally considered combat. But they will get a nice, shiny Humanitarian Service Medal:

What I don't understand is why a health coalition has not been put together with the military set up as security only at the perimeter?

Why have our military doing both deeds?

It makes absolutely no sense at all.

Without a secure perimeter and with military doing essentially both jobs somebody is going to get in there and steal fresh ebola samples like they did not too long ago.

The Israeli's have sent a team already. Why can't our military coordinate with the Israeli's and let the Israeli's do the medical work and let our military do security?

Obama, the CDC and our government will be completely at fault if this thing spreads to become a worldwide pandemic.

“We have protocols for handling infectious diseases in the laboratory where virtual no one gets infected...so it can be done.”

There is a HUGE difference in handling test tubes in a level 4 facility and treating a patient. These patients vomit so hard they pass out their stomach lining. They have diarrhea so bad they pass the lining of their intestines.

They spit, have seizures, scream, cry, and bleed through every opening of their body. Caregivers report the blood, vomit, and feces is literally sprayed throughout the room.

I understand that....still the decontamination processes needs to upgraded to a level 4 level or something similar at some point or no health-care worker will be willing to care for these people...

Obviously current protocols are insufficient....

“or no health-care worker will be willing to care for these people...”

People are volunteering to care for these people in West Africa. The problem is once those volunteers die we’re all in trouble.

What difference does it make? It’s not like most of them were going to vote for Democrats anyway.
