Airline Cabin Cleaners Strike Over Ebola Exposure Fears [New York City La Guardia Airport]
ABC News ^ | 10/09/2014

Nearly 200 airline cabin cleaners walked off the job at a New York City airport overnight, striking over health and safety issues that include fears over possible exposure to Ebola.

The protest involves Air Serv cabin cleaners in Terminal D at New York’s LaGuardia airport, a contractor that serves Delta, as well as supporting workers from LaGuardia and JFK International airports.

Protesting workers carried signs and chanted during today’s rally, protesting against conditions that they say often find them encountering hypodermic needles, vomit and blood.

Meanwhile, the Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ was scheduled to conduct infectious disease training today for airport cabin cleaners, terminal cleaners and wheelchair attendants.

"The training will cover current guidance from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA)," the union said in a release. "This includes guidelines for cleaning airplane cabins and lavatories, for cleaning an area with possible Ebola exposure, and for determining which equipment employers are required to supply."

The union added, "Amid rising fears of the spread of the deadly Ebola virus, the training will help workers better identify infectious disease hazards and protect against exposure and spread."

Such a response comes as additional screening is scheduled to begin at JFK and four other main U.S. airports, a means of trying to catch any travelers from Ebola-ravaged countries who may be carrying the disease.

Ah, the unions may finally learn that the gubmit is NOT their friend.

Except, of course, when the gubmit wants their money.

Maybe TSA can clean the planes as well.

Lets see how badly they screw that up.

If a cameraman can get Obola from cleaning up a car, people would be able to get it from cleaning up a plane.

Dallas deputy undergoes testing for Ebola

A patient exhibiting “signs and symptoms of Ebola” was moved from a Frisco clinic to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas
Michael Monnig

FRISCO — Paramedics transported a patient exhibiting “signs and symptoms of Ebola” from a Frisco CareNow clinic to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas on Wednesday afternoon.

Hours later, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Michael Monnig of The Colony remained in isolation, undergoing tests for Ebola and more common viruses.

“Right now, there are more questions than answers about this case,” said Wendell Watson, a spokesman with the hospital.

Monnig had accompanied county health officials Zachary Thompson and Christopher Perkins into the Dallas apartment where Thomas Eric Duncan had been staying when he fell ill with Ebola.

“Initial reports from the urgent care facility indicated the patient had direct contact with the Dallas ‘patient zero’; however, Frisco firefighter-paramedics now report the patient says he had contact with the apartment and family members related to the Dallas ‘patient zero’ prior to the apartment being decontaminated,” said city of Frisco spokesperson Dana Baird.

The deputy had been ordered to go inside the unit with officials to get a quarantine order signed on October 1. No one who entered the apartment that day wore protective gear.

According to Christopher Dyer, president of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Association, Monnig said he was feeling sick to his stomach before his visit to the clinic. Dyer expressed concern for Monnig and his family.

Weigh your priorities. You can find another job - you only get one life.
I work in a small hospital, but in the admin dept. Still, it has me thinking, and one of my coworkers - her husband is a flight attendant for a major airline. Its a longshot - but still I worry.

Although they are union pukes, they have a point.

The Dallas area deputy is a good example of their fears. The CDC said he couldn't get it without contact with the victim or fluids left by the victim.

He may have gotten it anyway. We don't know how.

WOW
This is going to have huge domino effects....

I foresee that the entire society will be shut down by, say, November 3rd.

We leave in 30 days for Ventura, CA from Little Rock on SWA. I hope we don't have to cancel, but I told my wife that her inlaws can drive here if they want to see the grandkids if more cases of Ebola keep popping up.

We are already buying gloves, P100 masks, and bleach wipes for the flight.

For many issues re personal safety and the bs of being a non minority flying and getting hassled by the TSA. We haven’t flown for years.

Now with this Ebola bs and the illegals from central American being flown on our airlines. My wife and I will continue to drive and not fly.
