Mother Teresa, ISIS and Abortion

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa died in 1997 but her view on abortion has a relevance to the infamous group known as ISIS. Let me first take you back in 1987 when I personally saw this legendary woman. She came to the Philippines to inaugurate the Home for the Dying. This is one of the many homes she was operating in more than 100 countries all across the world. I was a high school seminarian when she spoke to us in our chapel. I was one of the many who were spiritually and deeply moved by her saintly presence. What I could not forget was her message. She said something like this, “We cannot say we love God when we don’t even love our neighbors.” I was sixteen years old at that time but her simple and sincere words made a lasting impression in my mind even after 26 years.

During her Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in 1979, she said this statement: “The greatest destroyer of peace today is the cry of the innocent unborn child. If a mother can murder her own child, in her own womb, what is left for you and for me to kill each other?” Undoubtedly, she referred to abortion which is today an estimated 40 to 50 million yearly cases. I tried very hard to fathom on what is the connection between peace and abortion.

Here comes the ISIS, described by the United Nations as a terrorist group. For the past weeks, they killed thousands of people including the beheading of two American Journalists and one British Humanitarian Aid Worker. I have an intuition that the men of this group are survivors of abortion. The reason is because of the discussion about abortion given by my College Professor in Psychology which I carry with me even today. He said that there are a lot of women who attempted to kill their unborn babies by taking abortifacients. However, these babies survived. The children who survived the hidden killing intention of their mothers usually become criminals in their adulthood. On the other hand, men who impregnated women without assuming the responsibility of being a father, are usually coming from broken families. This means that they could also be survivors of abortion. He quoted a line from a controversial Psychologist, John B. Watson, “Give me two children. The first one, I will make him a criminal and the other one, I will make him a saint.”

Now I understand why Mother Teresa said that abortion is the greatest destroyer of peace. The men of ISIS could have this unresolved feeling of being unwanted buried in their subconscious when they were in the wombs of their mothers. What they are doing in the present is asserting their need to be recognized in the place of the society although in a negative way. So let us think many times before entering into sexual intercourse. Great responsibility of raising a child starts from the day of conception.

For almost five decades, Mother Teresa together with the sisters of the Missionaries of Charity gave homes for these children by sending a message to the world that she was fighting abortion by adoption. What if she is still alive today? What message could she give to the soldiers of ISIS who killed children by burying them alive along with women last Aug. 10, 2014? Would her saintly charisma finally end their atrocities to humanity?

I don't believe so. Most didn't listen to her back then, why would they listen to her now? In this letter, Mother Teresa gives us the answer to peace: http://adorationrocks.com/letter.html

These men have free will.

Matthew 10:13-15
If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace. Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet. Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
