Yeah I suppose 99 years in jail for that is sufficient. He admitted it was overboard, but I do not see it as a felony. If you want to live in that society where it is, then reap those benefits when they come for you.
I never said it was a felony, nor did I say I wanted that kind of society. I’ve never wavered from my support of disciplinary spanking when needed — however, he crossed a line when he whipped that kid like he did.
But hey — rest easy... Peterson is a professional athlete backed by legions of worshippers and aficionados of whipping kids with sticks, so nothing substantive will happen to him. This will all be forgotten... until he does it again.
While I understand ScottinVA’s reaction to the photos, I think he fails to realize the slippery slope trajectory of this whole affair. The definition of child abuse will soon be as broad as the new definition of ‘rape’. In the near future, a skin welt left by you from a spanking may lead to your arrest. Similarly, as with women’s abuse claims, you will be cuffed and jailed based just on the ‘word’ of the supposed victim. Dangerous and interesting times we live in.
“He admitted it was overboard, but I do not see it as a felony.”
He is a serial child abuser. He has left physical and mental scars on his kids that will never go away.
Exactly. I am confused why people think there would not be some marks left from this type of discipline. Peterson said at the time he went too far, but I bet it was done before that became obvious. If one were to use this approach to discipline (which I personally would not, but is quite common), there would be visible signs afterwards, clearly. The situation is being make more provocative with the repeated use of 'scrotum', when they is most likely incidental in the process.
This new era of photos and video being used to let the public be judge and jury before the legal system acts is absurd and dangerous. Now we have the same mob mentality here. There's a damn good chance this gets settled with a probationary punishment or other minor result. If it goes to trial, I'd bet on non-guilty.
The idea that Peterson is penalized so severely without any due process is so over the top.
