A jewelry store in Little Saigon, Orange County California, has become a magnet for robbers. In 2012, there was an attempted robbery in which one of the robbers was shot. In 2013, several shots were fired at a thief who fought with the store owner, and escaped with a $9,000 watch. Yesterday, 21 August, 2014, another robbery attempt ended in gunfire as a store employee drove off two robbers who had smashed a display case. From ocregister.com:
Two men wearing ski-type masks and hooded sweatshirts entered the store, used a hammer to break glass on a display case and began removing merchandise, Westminster police Officer Rachel Archambault said. One witness reported that one of the men may have been armed with a gun, she added.You would think that the robbers would learn that Tick Tock Watches is not a good choice of targets. Maybe they do not read the papers; maybe they think they are different and smarter; maybe they just cannot resist that high grade bling.
A store employee pulled out a weapon and fired two shots at the robbers, Collins said.

The thugs who rob jewelry stores (or convenience) stores are probably not candidates for scholarships to MIT, Cal Tech, or an Ivy League school. These are the stupidest, most violent elements of American society. They will never learn....not even when many of them get themselves killed attempting the robberies.

Back in the ‘90s there was a very sharp Chinese-American who worked in the dept. adjacent to mine. He was about 35 y/o and an industrial engineer, with several college degrees and on a track toward upper mgt.
The various Asian groups in the DFW area tend to move into their own areas, buy/start businesses and buy houses, so they are each closely-knit ethnic groups.
One day he told me he was quitting work because his community had elected him to handle all of their financial matters. ...He explained that his community all contributed a portion of their income to the “whole” so that everyone could succeed. ......He was elected to invest the community’s funds for profit and make decisions on buying and selling properties.
Sorry for being long winded, but just trying to explain why various groups of Asians are doing very well. It’s the sense and practice of supporting their own communities.

That formula, combined with the opportunities created by a market society and Judeo-Christian morality, work wherever they are tried.
That is certainly a contributing factor. The ability to trust others is an economic multiplier.
Gunplay? No the store clerks are not “playing” with guns, they are using guns to protect themselves and their store.
Get some of these and hang them around the store. When they get robbed, just turn on the magnets.
