A gunfight erupted in Detroit as a neighbor interrupted the theft of the catalytic converter from a minivan. The neighbor came out with a long gun, which appeared to be a Mossberg single shot bolt action shotgun, based on the shape of the trigger guard and bolt. The underside of the long gun showed the lack of a magazine.
A man spotted two crooks stealing the catalytic converter from his neighbor's Chevrolet Venture. He came out armed with a gun, hoping to scare them away. Police say the men took off toward their car, fired shots and drove off.
Just minutes later they came back for more. They fired shots at the home. The homeowner shot back. His friend -- an elderly man inside his home -- was shot in the arm.

I have an old Mossberg bolt action 410 with no external mag but it holds 3. I believe a 410 slug is like a 45 slug. I would be happy to hear it that is true from any gun experts out there. I know I wouldn’t want to face my shotgun.
Thieves are brazen here in Atl too. Somehting similar happened to a friend of mine who at the time owned a coin-op laundramat. He was followed to his home and the thieves confronted him at gunpoint. He pulled his small handgun and fired at them and missed. They fired at him and missed and ran off. A few minutes later a car came slowly down the street and the thugs who were in the car fired at him again and fortunately missed again. Since he only had one of those miniature .22 revolvers he diver for cover and didn’t try to shoot back.They left and of course the Atl police spent about 3 minutes total on it.
Oh and I forgot to mention the criminals fit the description of “black males.”
Seems like a clear need for an AR or AK.

410 & 45 are the same caliber. I don’t know about your Mossberg but some guns can interchange the round. I.e. The Judge by Taurus.

Part of the problem was that he didn't want to be seen to be armed. He wanted it to be a surprise to any assailant. He carried something like the North American .22 I forget which exact brand. I suggested he get something like a Colt Mustang in .380 (my current carry) but he thought that was too big.
AND... they were aspiring rappers and they loved the grandmothers and they had just turned their lives around (360 degrees) etc.
Actually they were neighborhood Handy Helpers. They had heard that the Old Man’s car was not running properly. Having determined it was due to a faulty Catalytic Converter they had removed it and was on their way to the local O”really Parts store to purchase a bypass pipe when the Evil retired Ex-Klansman opened fire on them.
First we had evil possessed SUVs and now we have violated mini-vans.

I wouldn't want to be shot with so much as a BB gun, but a 410 slug isn't the same as a .41/.45LC from a handgun (e.g. Taurus Judge, etc.) and won't exceed the FPS as shown on the cartridge box out of a standard-length shotgun barrel.
I'm unsure what the utility is for a .410 shotgun firing slugs. I do understand that .410s are more suitable than larger-bore gauges for hunting sage grouse and quail when using bird shot.
I have no idea what use the newer .410/.45LC chambered pistols have except for being handy versus venomous snakes, where they certainly perform better than a traditional .45/.44 pistol loaded with snakeshot rounds.
Testing is showing neither of these seem to be well-suitable for defense, unless you have no other firearm.
