Everyone is aware by now of another Trayvon Martin situation, this time in Ferguson, Missouri. An unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer. The result has been disturbing on both ends. Blacks in this St. Louis suburb have rioted. Theyre looting and destroying their own neighborhoods. The police response, using military equipment, has been equally as disturbing. Every American should be bothered by the unnecessary militarization of local police forces. Black anger is misplaced in this situation, just like it was in the Trayvon Martin situation.
Over 90% of black people who are murdered are killed by another black person according to FBI statistics. Those murders are routinely ignored by the black community and just about everyone else. The investigation in Ferguson isnt complete yet, so we dont fully know what happened. If the cop unjustly used his weapon, then let him be punished for it. Rioting over it is completely uncalled for.
Of course simmering under this situation is a feeling among black residents in metro St. Louis that the cops exist mainly to prevent them from harming whites. Time ran a piece by Prof. Gerald Early, who is sympathetic to the rioters cause. He acknowledged that when a light rail line was created, giving black communities quick access to shopping and entertainment districts used predominately by whites, that crime increased in those areas. If blacks are committing crimes against whites, it would hardly be surprising if the police tried to prevent it from happening. The left would like to have us pretend that this is racist, in fact the police are simply responding to reality. Unfortunately, black leaders brush aside criminal acts committed by blacks and cry racism instead.
Ultimately this is the problem for the black community. Theyve allowed themselves to be led by leftists for two generations. The result is that blacks are more dependent, on average, to government than whites. Generations long government dependance will never lift the black community (or any community) out of poverty or near poverty. Some of these rioters have figured out Obama hasnt made anything better for them. The problem is that their solution is more government assistance and more laws. LBJs Great Society is half a century old, government welfare hasnt worked for blacks. It is true, blacks arent better off under Obama. In fact, theyre worse off. However more welfare isnt the solution. The same government that passes out welfare checks also has military vehicles cruising up and down the streets of Ferguson, Missouri.
There has to come a point for the black community where they say to themselves enough government, we need to take care of ourselves. Individually, there is nothing holding blacks back in this country. Collectively, blacks are held back by a government that has enslaved them rather than made them free. The police in this case may have been unjustified in shooting. However rioting isnt going to fix anything. As we can already see, its made things worse. It isnt enough to demand equality, individual black people need to decide for themselves whether or not theyre going to free themselves from the cycle of dependance or not. Until a large number of individuals decide theyve had enough and shed government this problem wont go away.
If you want less government govern yourself in a better manner.
Slaves to a system, not free to act independently, but depend themselves on the system. I was talking to some successful businessmen from China, and they made me believe there was no WELFARE in China, everyone had to WORK>
Those who live in poverty, for the most part, are holding themselves back.

“Everyone is aware by now of another Trayvon Martin situation, this time in Ferguson, Missouri. An unarmed black teenager was shot and killed by a white police officer.”
In view of the fact that the opening two sentences establish a lie as the premises for the article I read no further. For anyone who could get past this is there anything of value here?
The fact that the police force and city council of the majority black city are white tells me that they don’t bother to take part in governing themselves.
The fact that they want someone else to correct those perceived wrongs tells me that they have no intent to take part in governing themselves.
Excellent!
I agree.
That's the real problem, he won't be. Case after case is making this very clear. The police can kill with no accountability whatsoever.
I have not researched the details of this incident but it looks to me like this is yet another questionable police shooting. It may have been justified or it may not but one thing is for sure if it was not I doubt there will be any meaningful consequences.
Details that look suspicious to me is the amount of shots fired and where the suspect was found in relation to the police cruiser. To me, it looks as though this suspect was running away. Even if he attempted to take the officers weapon, at the point where he was running away removed any justification for lethal force. We need more details though to determine this for sure.
As opposed to what -- a politically active black community voting in a block sending only tax-and-spend Democrats into political office turning it into another Detroit or Chicago???
There is something to be said of a 70% black community allowing themselves to be ruled by a 90% white council and 94% white PD.
But that has ended now thanks to one brainless white cop.
I have no interest in them staying on the plantation.

Bull
Either you’ll be governed by God,
or, by God, you’ll be governed.
I concede that suggesting government is holding people back absolves them of personal responsibility. It would have been wiser to say that government entices people to dependency.
I’m lost, what’s the lie here? This matter in Ferguson is similar to the Martin case. In both an unarmed black teenager was shot and killed. Yes, the circumstances surrounding how they got shot are different. In Martin a private citizen defended himself, in this new case a police officer was involved though because the investigation isn’t complete the circumstances of the shooting aren’t known yet.
I agree Mr.B. This was what used to make our nation great - people did was was right because they wanted to honor God with their life - not perfectly and not everyone but most of us. The only way back is to return to the One we left. Unfortunately, most of our citizens will try anything except that idea.
There are definitely issues with law enforcement that deserve more attention. The cops often get away with physically harming private citizens who have done no wrong. We don’t know if it happened in this case yet or not, so I’ll withhold judgment. The use of military equipment in the aftermath was disturbing though. The police serve the people and they deserve scrutiny as do all government employees in positions of power.
“In Martin a private citizen defended himself, in this new case a police officer was involved...”
You answered your own question.
My reading (and I said clearly that I went no further than the first two sentences) was that the purpose of the opening is to suggest that Trayvon Martin was an innocent who was killed without provocation as is the second sentence intended for Michael Brown. Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman in self defense - all the evidence suggests it and in fact a court held as much despite what the nay-sayers say.
Just because a young black man is killed does not mean there is an equivalence from one event to the next nor does it mean in any way there is a similarity
