MCALLEN, Texas – The rest of America may fear what comes over the invisible line that separates Mexico and the United States. But not the people of McAllen.

For them, the border that follows the Rio Grande is their heritage and their lifeline. The comings and goings of people and goods are what makes McAllen tick. It’s what nourishes this city of 134,719.

Folks I ask this question.. Jessica, 28, arrived last week from El Salvador with her four-year-old son Jorge, on a raft guided by smugglers, they did not label them aliens and turn them away.Into story. The shelter run by the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley and the city of McAllen fed and clothed them and bandaged her son’s left arm where, Jessica said, a gang member in El Salvador had shot him in an attempt to extort money, which is why she fled with Jorge to the U.S., leaving her husband and two older children behind...If you are member of gang in El Salvador this is woman claimed they tried to extort money from her, so they shot her son as warning that they mean business.I ask would you think she must of paid smugglers thousands dollars to make it out of El Salvador, more $$$$ for passage across Guatemala to reach Mexico-how much did that cost ?Once she reaches Mexico, in Mexico everybody there wants $$$$ to provide passage out of Mexico to the U.S. As money must be paid to all the drug cartels. My question is so the gangs in El Salvador all but gave up on her --when the woman left with her child and furthermore said gangs all but left alone her husband and two older children alone once she left them behind left them alone ??Does that make any sense ?? And I would further assume the woman borrowed money from gang members of El Salvador to be smuggled to America ?Wouldn't gang members in El Salvador be saying since we cannot get you lady-- we will target your husband and two older children and we cannot tell how much longer they will live or when it will happen ?

Canada has no heart? Why don’t they take in the refugees from violence?

Canada has state run healthcare that Americans can only dream of (so I hear).

Put the US military on the border and repel invasion.

That’s because McAllen is mostly Hispanic.

No matter, there is NO GOOD that can right the horrible wrong that the Feds have done, and continue to do, to America and its citizens. None.

The "impoverished" woman says she jumped the border to escape poverty and gang violence....but left her husband and two other children at the mercy of gangs. She paid smugglers thousands dollars to make it out of El Salvador, more $$$$ for passage across Guatemala to reach Mexico. Once she reaches Mexico, everybody there wants $$$$ to provide passage out of Mexico to the southern border. Ruthless drug cartels demand money to "guide" them across.

At last week'a House Judiciary hearing on immigration, CONG LOUIE GOHMERT (REP-TX) had this eye-opening exchange with the Obama appointee rubber-stamping illegals into the US from 144 countries:

GOHMERT: WRT drug cartels paid $6000 each to "guide" the hordes over the border---"Would you, as a former prosecutor, call them criminals?" Gohmert nonchalantly asked Obama appointee, Leon Rodriguez--now heading USCIS--- a DHS agency.

The smirking Rodriguez stepped---long into the trap as Cong Gohmert casually hoisted him on his own petard.....making the point that if the hordes were coming here to escape drug cartels, why is it they are consorting w/ the nasty criminals, and are paying the violent breed to accompany them over the border?

Definitely not the behavior of someone in mortal fear, "forced" to escape to the US for protection. More likely, the swarm is in collusion w/ the cartels. Better check those backpacks.

Many of their stories are variations on hers. It's all bunk. Ooooh, I'm scared of the gangs so I came to America to be freeeeeeee!!!! Just like those kiddies who we're supposed to believe walked all alone through thousands of miles of scorching desert, not a peso on them to buy a burrito much less a sip of water, hiding out from sex traffickers and drug cartels and somehow managed to get here in one piece.

Re: “Taxpayers are paying for it and they are all behind it,” Josh Ramirez, director of the city agency providing support to the immigrants, said.

McAllen, Texas is 85% Hispanic.

Almost 27% of the current residents are below the poverty level, which is almost twice the national average.

How many “taxpayers” actually live in McAllen?

Aww, isn’t that sweet? They opened their heart to get all these poor people away from the gangs. Gee whiz, if being in the U.S. makes them safe, think how much safer they’d be even further north, in Canada! Hey Canucks, how about it? Won’t you open your hearts to a half-million or so “refugee children” too?

“Who do youTHINK lives in a southern border town...Mexicans...duh!”

That's what I was thinking. Many of these towns, cities, and counties have become heavily Central American anyway, so they figure (correctly) the more that drop anchor there the stronger their political power will be.

The majority of them know nothing about America, her history, or what it means (really means) to be an American. The flag and National Anthem is just something they have to endure prior to a baseball game. For many of them it's party on, we control your country now, Gringo!

I wonder how fast the request will be made to the imperial federal government for assistance funds.

I am saying why would the likely to be MS 13 gang throw up their hands in the air claim to be defeated. Why wouldn’t MS 13 kidnap the husband and her two other kids or do they have no interest in them ?I said if you are ruthless gang member would it be your position if you cannot attack your intended target, would you not turn your attention to other members of her family -like her husband & two older kids extort money, from them or shoot them ? Are do said gangs there remain so understanding they would never target any other family members left behind . Is what I am asking.Maybe the gangs are not as dangerous they claim ?

One thing is never explained in these news stories.

Why do these people pay thousands of dollars to smugglers to get them to - and across - the border?

They could purchase a USA tourist visa and a bus ticket for just a couple hundred dollars and get to McAllen TX in relative comfort and safety.

Once in the USA, just stay.

50% of the other illegal immigrants in America got here that way.

Why not these immigrants?
