Much to the surprise of those who understand the decline of journalism in our country, in a discussion of how the recent House votes on handling illegal aliens would impact Republican electoral chances, the New York Times actually told the truth.
After explaining how the Hispanic vote is distributed in such a way that it will have no influence on any of this years contested U.S. Senate races except possibly in Colorado, the Times observed that Hispanic voters will have even less influence over the composition of the House, which is all but assured to remain in Republican hands. The clearest illustration of the extent to which the House G.O.P. is insulated from Hispanic voters is this: The party easily held the House in 2012, even though Republicans won only 30 percent of the Hispanic vote for Congress, and even though Hispanic turnout in that presidential year was higher than in a midterm election.

. Really? So what is the value of the Hispanic vote to the Republican Party? Actually very little. As Democrats have been spreading lies about Republicans...

Even if the GOP promises amnesty and more special perks to illegal aliens, they would not gain Latino votes but would lose votes lose votes.
Only the fools or frauds in the GOPe say it needs illegal alien votes to survive. The fools refuse to believe that Hispanics make up a big segment of the welfare class in TX and CA and will always vote Democrat for free stuff. The frauds peddle this nonsense because they are shills for the Chamber of Commerce that buys GOP votes in Congress with campaign donations.
I used to have this same argument with some African American coworkers. They always complained about whites not supporting Barack Obama and I had to make them look at the numbers, if no whites supported Mr. Obama, there is no way he could have been elected, even if every single eligible non-white person had voted for him.
There HAD to be some whites who were not racist.
Coach is actually pretty wrong on this.
GOP control of the House, and it’s shot at winning the Senate this year, is rooted in the Constitutional structures that limit a political majority from running roughshod over a political minority. Specifically 1) the gerrymandered nature of many House districts and 2) only 1/3 of the Senate being up for election at any given time.
The Hispanic vote is becoming, has already become, decisive in Presidential
Elections and many Senate ones. Sure, the GOP controls the House and will continue to do so, but looking at the seats that are up in 2016 and 2018 it becomes clear that while it may win the Senate this year it’ll probably lose it in 2016 and if not then definitely lose it in 2018.
The issue is that the GOP can’t afford to do the things necessary to win a large portion of the Hispanic vote. Which is based not on amnesty/immigration reform but rather on their demand for big government social programs like Obamacare,
Does anyone have the figures showing how many Hispanics are actually legal and can vote?
The GOP will never lose if it simply increases its solid share of the white vote by a couple of points.
its not us against the Hispanics...its us and the Hispanics and all the working and middle classes against TPTB in DC.....
Democrats have been spreading lies about Republicans.....and so have big-mouth Turd World pressure groups, salivating for more and more govt freebies.
The honkers include (gag) Cong Gutierrez who lacerated Republicans for not moving amnesty, threatening Republicans---saying vengeful latinos would make sure they never win another presidency.
La Raza Presiden/chief hater, Janet "turd" Murguia, told hyphenates that it sickened her to hear Americans chanting. She accused Murietta protesters of having "cloaked their hatred in patriotism" by shouting "'USA! USA!' again and again." "It made me angry," she said. "In fact, I was outraged."
Murguia demanded amnesty and said the road to the White House for Republicans goes through the Latino community and La Raza. She also said Republicans who want to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will not get Hispanic votes.

Well, boo-frickin'-hoo.
Nate Silver showed that even with 70% of the Hispanic vote Romney would not have won. If Romney had been a true conservative the missing 4 million conservative voters would have showed up and that number would have elected Romney even with Obama getting 110% of the Hispanic vote.
I agree.
Shhhhhhh.......Don’t let the GOP hear that!!!!!
Take into consideration how many Conservatives will not vote R if the Republicans pass an amnesty Bill.
In education, talk about shop and other vocational courses in HS instead of preparing for a debt-ridden college experience would help. Health clinics instead of complicated insurance. Keep it symple....people who come to the US want more freedom, not more of the gov control they left.
Yes, exactly.
In a binary world amnesty hurts Republicans and helps Democrats.
But that’s assuming that the Republicans actively do somthing. Or actively do nothing.
In this case the Republicans are passively doing nothing. Beating up on Republicans on immigration because their caucus is in shambles is a hecknof a lot harder than either beating them up for telling Hispanic activists to go pound sand, OR exploiting a rupture in the GOP coalition for passing amnesty.
So if it was planned, it’s sheer brilliance, robbing the Dems of a potent issue while holding an increasingly fractured coalition together.
I just don’t think it was planned. But victory stumbled and blundered into us still ... victory.
I agree. There is a segment of Hispanics who are patriotic and have no use for illegal aliens and do not want to be grouped with these invaders and their enables
Exactly
