The ugly American has gotten a lot uglier over the past few weeks, from the streets of California to the halls of Congress and state houses around the country.
A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better.
Sadly, the arrival of these youngsters has been greeted by flag-waving, sign-carrying, Bible-thumping and Constitution-quoting citizens demanding that they not be received here and that they be returned immediately to their country of origin.
There have been some ugly scenes reminiscent of the days when racist mobs in the 1960s attacked young freedom riders on their buses or at lunch counters in the South. The viciousness indeed hatred demonstrated in some of these anti-immigrant protests is painful to watch.
And while I assume, hope and pray that the most vile individuals represent a minority, I also know that they are being egged on by some of our most influential political leaders and social commentators, who seem to care more about their own power than they do anything or anyone else, especially some poor, frightened child from a distressed country who is looking for refuge.
I know that there are plenty of people in Texas and across the nation who care about these kids and their families. Weve seen an outpouring of people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area stepping up, ready to help....

Children my ass.
Let the people see these “children”.
This man is racist. They’re called “undocumented refugees”.../s
Go pick up thousands of dirty, diseased “others” and drop them into any non-European country in the world (especially African nations) and you will see “ugly”. It will the machete-wielding kind of ugly. Why do they think refugees come here anyway? We don’t cut their heads off and rape their daughters!
Bobbie Ray! Get your head out of your rectum! Please!
The Fort Worthless Red Star-Telegram.
>>Let the people see these children.
They’re like the “chillens” who make up the bulk of the “children killed by gunfire” statistics. They include anyone up to the age of 25 and include those killed by cops during crimes and by gang violence. Take those people out of the population and guns become safer than pacifiers for children.
Your morality costs you nothing and gives the opportunity to act like an ass, with no real costs to you.
Why don’t you get on your moral high horse and giddy up on down to the nearest center and bring a family home which you?
How many is Bob Ray Sanders putting-up in his spare bedroom?
Nope,he’s keeping his head right there. It’s a leftist tradition and the only one he knows.
>>”About 80 percent, though, of these so-called children are about 16 to 17 years old, most male. That, from a security standpoint, greatly concerns me,”
Me too. Shock troops for the regime.
these are not immigrant children. The number of real children is few compared to the older teens and young adult coming in droves. by older teens I mean able to vote in a few months. If they had that many little kids they would let us see them. they are sneaking them all over the country..they will not be sent back.
so true
Democrat indentured servants.
They’ll do as they’re told or they’ll be sent back.
funny, I didn't see much bible-thumping but I did see a lot of LaRaza, Brown Berets, and Atzalan crazies.
Gee, I don’t know why the prospect of incurable diseases killing off our families and friends would bother us.
Take some of the lil kiddies home to your house
It’s like this Bobby Ray, I don’t care much for thieves and freeloaders. Even if they are covered with jailhouse tattoos.
If you really cared about these kids, you would have helped them before they made a perilous journey on the death train through Mexico. By not sending them back, you are only encouraging more of them to travel through land controlled by Mexican drug cartels. What are you doing right now for the people living in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras ?
