A very interesting video, detailing what drillers can see, identify and diagnose using a downhole camera.

Fascinating.

It appears that those images show oil and gas bubbling up through water. Is that common? Is the water found in the wells or is it injected as part of the drilling process?

Essential every petroleum trap contains oil, gas and water. Different ratios but I don’t know of any well that after at least some time doesn’t produce water.

In traditional wells at least, the well will eventually produce mostly water.

Interesting. I had no idea that was the case.

Thanks!

During completion and work-over operations wells are usually filled with clear heavy brine to hold down any pressure.

Thanks for that info. Since they are running the camera, these would not be “normal” operation modes.

I remember back in the day wishing for that technology during fishing jobs to be able to see the top of the fish and how it was laying in the hole.

I can imagine it could make quite a difference on problem jobs.

I have no idea how commonly it is done.
