Dear George Takei,
Hobby Lobby is about religious freedom and not about contraception. Our Constitution affirms free exercise of religion and not “free worship”. Free exercise means that a person can live his/her life according to the dictates of his/her faith. Free worship means what goes on behind the doors of a building on worship day. Hobby Lobby’s owners are well within their right of ‘free exercise’ to ask for a readily available abortifacient not to be forced on them because it violates their religious beliefs.
Now, what government is forcing Sharia Law on the health care policies of Hobby Lobby? HL is not forcing anything on their employees. They were asking for a reprieve from a practice that the government was forcing on them. Is ObamaCare forcing Sharia on everyone, and Hobby Lobby is ready to go along with it? I don’t think so.
In short, George, you have it backward. Hobby Lobby is not the one who was doing the forcing.
And, just so you think before you go there. Contraceptives are not illegal now. They are just as legal as ever. They can be bought in multiple places and in many cases over the counter.
What is different is that, because Hobby Lobby has a religious objection to abortion, Hobby Lobby isn’t being forced to provide abortion causing drugs to their employees .
I’d say post that on Takei’s Facebook page, but it’d never be seen.
