Locally, a woman lost her house because a grandson sold drugs from her front porch. She had nothing to do with drugs. It was a shotgun house in a neighborhood within walking distance of the capital where now they’re building million dollar homes on the lots. (Four floor houses with a few rooms on each floor.) As the paper stated, if she’d had a mortgage instead of owning it outright they wouldn’t have tried. The same is true of cars. If you don’t own it, they don’t even try. It’s a money scam.
This asset forfeiture has pissed me off since the 1980s.
It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
The criminals are the LEAs that seize whatever they like without due process.
