Prior to his Army service, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was administratively discharged from the Coast Guard after only 26 days in 2006.
U.S. Coast Guard and Army officials confirmed to CBS News that the sergeant who was recently exchanged for five Taliban detainees had joined the Coast Guard before the Army, but was dismissed for unclear reasons just 26 days later.
Lt. Col. Elaine Conway told CBS News that the Army knew of Bergdahls discharge from the Coast Guard, and said they are looking into whether it was known at the time of his enlistment into the Army.
An uncharacterized discharge means that Bergdahl didnt serve long enough to have his performance characterized or judged.
According to The Washington Post, which obtained several pieces of Bergdahls writings at the time, show a man struggling with mental health issues.
Trying to keep myself togeather [sic], he wrote, according to The Post. Im worried. The closer I get to ship day, the calmer the voices are. Im reverting. Im getting colder. My feelings are being flushed with the frozen logic and the training, all the unfeeling cold judgment of the darkness, he wrote in an entry right before he deployed....

Is the Army so desperate that they let nut jobs like Bergdahl in after they’ve washed out of another branch of service? That is extremely disturbing to those of us who have loved ones in the Army.

Oh dear. Bet he would be a load of fun after 18 hours rolling around in a Humvee.

Great. A brain-damaged freak in addition to being a deserter and a traitor. ...and the fools promoted him to Sgt.
That is what looks like happened. Used to be that if you washed out of boot camp, none of the other branches would touch you.
he also try to join the French Foreign Legion and was told where to go
Don’t forget: He was on track to make Staff Sergeant, E-6 this month.
How can someone who got bounced from Coast Guard in less than a month get into the Army?
Either he fell through the cracks or they were desperate for bodies, or both. I once drove a guy to the MEPS to get sworn-in who’d finally passed the ASVAB with the minimal score after repeated tries.
Officers whom did not get his college degree finished in time got those. Bumped from 0-2 down to E-6.
Maybe they mismeasured him and he was only 5’11 1/2” tall?
Or O-4 to E-7. I’ve seen it. One O-3 stupidly mentioned 3 codewords out in the open. Next day I outranked him.
Bergdahl writes like a reporter for The New York Times.
I'm going to see if I can find it coming from a book or something.
Gay?
Keeper
26 Days.Sounds like he flunked out of boot camp
What a frigen looser
