Remember when David Letterman was funny? Yeah, me neither. On last nights The Late Show the host did a comedy bit with guest Anderson Cooper on the inaction of the government to limit private gun ownership. Letterman complained that we are doing nothing, offered no solutions, but ultimately insisted it was a solvable problem.
Letterman starts his anti-gun rant like any good liberal: Screw the facts! This is what I think and how you should to:
"I think, I dont have the statistics but thats never stopped me. I think daily in this country a child or an underage boy or girl is shot and killed by a gun."
For the record, children are not killed everyday by a gun. Even considering that the statistics include 17-year old gangbangers only 208 kids (14 & under) were murdered by gunfire in 2012, the last year for available statistics. And that number has been on a downward trend for the last decade. Meanwhile, over 1000 kids drown every year.
Then Dave gets into the complaining and offers up a non-solution:
"And then we had the situation in Santa Barbara, CA where a fellow was unbalanced and killed people then killed himself. I certainly thought that Newtown was going to be the landmark, changing touchstone point in this country where we changed our understanding and awareness about gun ownership and how to improve, not eliminate guns how to improve. But now weve just become inured with this. People are shot and killed each and every day by private handgun ownership. This you cant tell me this is an insoluble problem."
Notice the subtle bit of propaganda where Letterman says private handgun ownership is what kills people? Its not the scumbag criminals nor is it the anti-social madmen; its the entire concept of private gun ownership that pulls the trigger.
Starting with that premise, its no wonder Letterman thinks private gun ownership is a problem to be solved. The only real problem that needs fixing around this are the people like him that want to void the Constitution and take our rights away. Taking away the right to defend oneself will result in a much higher body count.
If youve been paying attention, you may have noticed how gun control proponents tend to say ridiculous things because their knowledge of the issue is limited. On this front Dave does not disappoint:
"Nothing will move until everyone knows or has a family member that was gunned down by a gun accident."
Accident? I thought he was talking about mass shootings. Does he think the Newton shooting was just a big misunderstanding? Its hard to say, but the ridiculousness continued.
At this point Letterman begins talking about shooting clay pigeons while pretending to fire a shotgun. He sweeps his imaginary barrel across Anderson Coopers chest to which he responds, Im not sure I want you anywhere near a gun, Dave.
Letterman finishes off with an outright lie and a piece of deception:
"I was in a store a couple of weeks ago a million guns, automatic rifles, 9 millimeter pistols, a complete arsenal. And I was looking at old west cowboy six-shooter guns. I was fascinating by them so, Im not anti-gun. But for the love of Christ, when are we going to do something about this nonsense I mean dont you think that we can have them?"
Really? Where exactly is this gun store that sells automatic weapons? Id love to shop there. Letterman works in New York and lives in Connecticut, two places that ban pretty much anything more powerful than a BB gun, but he was in a store that sells fully automatic rifles. Bullsh*t!
One of the gun grabber tactics is to convince people that they themselves are gun owners, yet favor commonsense restrictions to gun ownership. Letterman lamely tries this ploy by saying he was fascinated by six-shooters so he isnt anti gun, followed by when are we going to get rid of private gun ownership?
Lettermans overall messages is one that most media pundits are spewing these days: gun violence is out of control, its madness, something must be done, we have no idea what that thing is but lets start with blaming law-abiding gun owners. Dave is just delivering this tired, irresponsible, and fraudulent message as a Stupid Human Trick.
It's easy to call for a ban on guns when you have your own private security force.
Letterman’s vomiting is precisely in line with leftist thinking. These aren’t just the ravings of a madman, they are a party platform imperfectly expressed.
There is a pronounced naiveté on the part of those who hanker for “no guns.” They envision a world where everyone gets along. This is a noble vision, but it is not at all realistic, no matter how much one might wish for it.
Yet those who wish also enjoin the law to instill their wishes. If only they could learn that the proper use of guns is for protection; for defending life and property. Lawless aggressors cannot be waived off with wishes and laws. This is a clear case where “you cannot legislate morality” comes into play. You cannot change the hearts of evil people by passing laws. Hence guns are a necessary evil, as it were. All the more necessary when you have a government intent on taking them away altogether.
Hey Dave, STFU and go screw another employee.
Have you ever heard a lefty who promotes gun control answer to the hypocrisy of having armed security? I have not.
I was forced to watch him on The View at my dentist’s office (one more reason not to go there), what a liberal vomitfest! The lines are drawn, I know what side I’m on.
First he screws his interns. Now he wants to screw us. Dave needs to STFU.
David Letterman was NEVER funny.
Now, Johnny Carson WAS funny.
Yes, I have. “I was threatened with my life, I had to protect myself.”
Only criminals should have guns because, you know, they’re professionals and they know how to handle them.....
If we could figure out a way to get these nut cases to reverse that order, the problem would be solved.
...both surrounded by guards...with weapons...hypocrits!
Do you recall when he asked his audience
“What does going rogue even mean?
It is too bad some Palin supporter couldn’t have yelled back.
“It means you don’t have to screw your boss to climb the company ladder!”
Johnny looks down and smiles.
Now, Johnny Carson WAS funny.
I pretty much well gave up on TV when Carson retired. Haven't watched it since.
These people are incapable of minding their own business.
Dave.
Retire, all ready.
Just. Shut. Up.
Ugly, unfunny, immoral shack-up illegitimate sire.
Hey Dave, do you own a gun?
Personally, I mean?
C’mon, you can say it.
How many?
