Obama Urges Substitute Fathers Instead Of Intact Families
The Daily Caller ^ | May 30, 2014 | Neil Munro, White House Correspondent

President Barack Obama’s new report on fatherless kids doesn’t include a single mention of the words “marriage” or “married.”

The report admits that fatherlessness almost doubles the failure rate among African-American and Latino kids, yet it calls for government to arrange substitute fathers for huge numbers of fatherless boys and girls instead of binding fathers to their kids via marriage.

“The President is calling on Americans interested in getting involved in My Brother’s Keeper to sign up as long-term mentors to young people,” according to the White House press statement that accompanies the report, which is titled “Opportunity for All: My Brother’s Keeper.”

“This effort will engage Americans from all walks of life to sign up to develop sustained and direct mentoring relationships that will play vital roles in the lives of young people,” it declares.

The White House’s focus on substitute fathers will likely widen economic gaps, which have widened to record levels under his administration. Wealthier Americans — including many outspoken liberals such as Obama and his wife — tend to follow the traditional “life script” of education first, then marriage, then childrearing, even as they promote family “diversity” for others.

In contrast, government does little to help lower-income Americans recognize or stay on that script....

Maybe they’re just trying to be realistic about an entire generation of men whose only interest is their peckers.

The (alleged) President is calling on Americans . . . to sign up as long-term mentors to young people

I have signed up as a "long-term mentor" to young people several times. In each case, I made my commitment roughly nine months before the young person was born, and I have chosen to maintain that commitment for the child's entire life (or more likely mine). There is even a term for this long-term mentor relationship; I call myself their father. Communities with issues among their youth should try this method. It works.

I don`t have the time! I`m too busy helping out my kids who are in college. Besides, I already pay enough in taxes to those brood mares cr@ping out kids for a living, let them make their own arrangements concerning dupes for their meal tickets.

Thank you LBJ, for the matriarchal black society where fathers were driven away from their families by welfare economics and further, where women were encouraged to have multiple children out of wedlock.

Think how complicated it would be, at this point, to involve fathers in the lives of multiple children with different mothers, who have other children by different men.

Why, it’s almost as if the most efficient thing would be for one man and one woman to get married and have children only with one another.

The “Brother” in “My Brother’s Keeper” implies a father. Once again, liberals redefine the meaning of important words and build whole arguments and policies upon their dysfunctional definition.

Just thinking mathematically. Where does Obama think the “substitute fathers” are going to come from?

I assume they have to be black, which cuts down the possibilities considerably right off the bat. Then they can’t be in jail, which removes quite a few more. Presumably it would be advisable to exclude a fair number who were in jail but are out, although not all: people can learn and change.

Then you have a percentage of black men who are doing their best to bring up their own children, and perhaps coaching sports teams, volunteering in churches, and so on. Some of them could stretch to help a few more, but not endlessly.

That leaves some older men, perhaps retired, to act as surrogate grandfathers. Some successful young men might want to reach out to help others succeed as well. I knew a couple of young black men at That Insurance Company who were involved in youth sports.

Nonetheless, considering the numbers, it seems as if it will have to be a situation where Mr. A is a surrogate father to Mr. B’s abandoned child, while Mr. B does the same for Mr. A’s children. (Like when I observed that my neighbor and I are both “out of the workforce,” but if we each paid the other to watch our children, we’d be gainfully employed and probably qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit and other benefits.)

Anyway, I can’t help thinking of Frank Marshall Davis and Zero’s disgusting poem about the “mentoring” relationship. Will this program have background checks and two-deep leadership, or will they just throw vulnerable boys to the chickenhawks?

I was joking, but I appreciate your thoughtful response.

I know that there are responsible, loving parents who are doing their best to raise their children in this society, but without a major change in the culture, I don't see a significant improvement.

I knew you were joking, but it’s a serious topic and needs to be address by better people than Zero. And it is, in churches and community groups and Boy Scouts and all sorts of programs not requiring the Federal government ... but there’s too much to be done by too few.

The government should not be involved. In this case, and too many others, there is another agenda at work.

I agree.

In this case, and too many others, there is another agenda at work.

Being as how it's the Obama administration, I think the agenda is to win applause, and then distribute taxpayer money to political loyalists and personal cronies. Then he'll insist that any effort to determine whether anything useful was accomplished is RACIST.

obama should recognize this plain simple fact: you can not make families from the pieces of other families

I guess white kids are immune from this cultural plague...

O' Wait... it must be "white privilege"

Oh' I see you got suckered into "Kid lock" sort of like "Job lock" the democrats proclaim as a wonderful consequence of Obamacare...

Yes, thank you for putting it so plainly. These men are pretty worthless.
