The Obama administration intends to publicly reveal a secret memo outlining its legal justification for using drones to kill U.S. citizens it accuses of terrorism overseas, it emerged Tuesday.
An official told Al Jazeera that the Department of Justice has decided not to appeal a court order requiring disclosure of a redacted version of the document under the Freedom of Information Act.
The decision to release the documents comes a day before the Senate is to vote on advancing President Barack Obama's nomination of the memo's author, Harvard professor and former Justice Department official David Barron, to sit on the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had vowed to attempt to block Barron's confirmation with a filibuster if the documents were not made public. Paul issued a statement Tuesday saying he still opposes Barron's nomination.
Wednesday's expected vote would allow the Senate to move ahead with a final vote on Barron on Thursday. "I think we'll be OK," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said earlier Tuesday.
Anwar al-Awlaki, an Al-Qaeda leader born in the United States, was killed after being targeted by a drone strike in Yemen in September 2011. Some legal scholars and human rights activists complained that it was illegal for the U.S. to kill American citizens away from the battlefield without a trial.

HOWEVER, he was an American Citizen, ordered to be killed by the President of the United States, outside of carrying arms in a declared war zone, without the benefit of Due Process, as assured by the Constitution.
There was never a criminal trial for a United States citizen, and he was never convicted of anything.
If Obama can get by with this, he can justify murdering any American Citizen at any time, anywhere in the world. Including political opponents.
Simply issue a warrant for their arrest. To hell with that Constitutional Due Process thingy. And that includes US, folks...

If all Whacky had stumbled into the path of a missle, while it was targeted at a non-US Citizen, it could be construed as legal, his tough, dumb luck.
But Obama publicly ADMITTED that he authorized the strike to kill this guy.
That makes it a Crime against a Citizen of the United States. IMHO, A crime of Murder....

this definition of ‘ U.S. Citizen ‘ freely and too easily given to virtually any immigrant from anywhere that plays the system is just too much . They are NOT AMERICANS !....Especially if they turn around and plot to kill actual Americans , serving as terrorists or terrorist facilitators .
There needs to be a caveat to U.S. citizenship ; that it is revocable , without appeal , to anyone , or their immediate children to whom it has been granted , if it can be shown that they have subsequently used their so-called citizenship status to undermine American or attack Americans or American soldiers abroad . Any found to be engaged in such acts should have their citizenship status permanently revoked , and they should be able to be declared ‘ enemy combatants ‘ . This re-classification should apply to anyone whom willing chooses to be in close physical association with them . No mercy , no adjudication for stone cold islamo killers . They are NOT Americans .
Citizenship needs to be earned through lifelong loyalty and adherence to the laws of your new country ; The USA ....
