Here is a question. When does the state take ownership of evidence (not custody-possession, but ownership)?

If a person is murdered in your RV, the RV might be evidence, but that doesn’t mean it instantly becomes the property of the state. And just because a gun is taken into evidence, doesn’t mean it was used in the commission of a crime.

I could see not selling some firearms that were used in murders or notorious crimes, both to discourage copy cat types, and to protect potential owners that don’t want to own such an item. Yea, its an inanimate object like a car, but I don’t want to own a car that was used to crush a crowd of kids. But then, aren’t murder weapons held in evidence until the perp dies?

Did they even try to find the rightful owners of these firearms ? Or how many were kept for personal collections?

When they want to or when it pleases them. Unless one has the money or resources[political influence] to fight them, the State [Agents of] do as they damn well please. The slaves do as they [the State] says.
